For me, becoming a Mum is the most amazing achievement in my life. It’s the one thing that I dreamt of growing up and I feel lucky to have not one but three beautiful children of my own and being step-parent to one fantastic step-son. I always considered myself quite lucky to have Will in my life from a young age because it meant that I got to ‘practice’ at being a Mum without all of the sleep deprivation of having a newborn baby.
Getting the lowdown on Motherhood
In the 9 months of pregnancy with Lillie, I would ask lots of questions of others who had children about what to expect. I soon began to realise that some were sugar-coating it for my protection and others were giving me the honest truth. In all honesty, I preferred the truth. I was never under any illusion that parenting was going to be easy but I wanted to be prepared. I read lots of books, some of which were helpful. most of which were not. One book I wish had been available when I was pregnant is the Healthy Happy Mum Plan from Katie Piper and Terri-Ann Nunns.
The Healthy Happy Mum Plan
This is an honest book from two Mums who have walked the walk and can talk the talk. Katie has two children and Terri-Ann has four, they know what works and what doesn’t. Katie and Terri-Ann have joined forces with a nutritionist to come up with a kick start plan to get Mums onto a healthier regime. We all know how easy it can be to grab a biscuit or bag of crisps instead of taking the time to make something more nutritious.
Easy to Read Sections
Time-starved Mums need to be able to access information quickly and easily so the Healthy Happy Mum Plan is divided into sections with tabs down the side for fast-selection. Both ladies share their experience of motherhood and a typical day in their life.
The Happy Plan
Katie and Terri-Ann explain the importance of taking care of yourself. They discuss the guilt that some Mums feel when the time comes to return to work and fitting back into ‘adult’ life. There are some great pieces of advice on keeping your cool in times of stress including meditation and breathing techniques.
The Diet Plan
When the time is right for you and you decide you want to get back into shape the Diet Plan is your friend. It explains everything from when to eat, the calories you will and all the necessary food groups. There are examples of a typical day, a weekly shopping list and how to plan and prepare so that your new eating regime will fit seamlessly into your family life. The guide is perfect for family activities, such as going for long walks or having fun mountain biking.
The Healthy Happy Mum Plan is packed with Recipes for when you are feeling lacking in inspiration. Tips on breastfeeding, healthy choices, and even a food diary to help you stay on track and see where you might be sneaking a few extra calories in or indeed missing some vital calories.
MumHub Online Community
As well as this amazing Mum Manual, Katie and Terri-Ann have also created the MumHub Online Community, a private Facebook group which can be accessed via their website on the MumHub tab. You need to have purchased the plan in order to gain access.
The community is packed with family recipe ideas, live videos, live polls, competitions and of course even more tips and interesting features.
