With all of the usual spring-cleaning jobs, it’s easy to forget about some of the other things you could be doing to spring-clean your life. Ready to give your computer a fresh start? Here are some tips to spring clean your computer.

Organise your files

The first thing you should do is get organised with your files. Putting folders in place so that you can keep everything in check will make it easier for you to find what you’re looking for. It’s also a good excuse to get rid of things you don’t need.

Go through your documents, images, videos, etc., and delete things you don’t need. You may also want to transfer some items to an external storage system so that you only have the files you need regularly on your computer. Moving to a cloud storage system will help you free up your local storage so that everything is backed up securely, without taking up all of your storage.

Free up some hard drive space

Your hard drive can easily become cluttered, making it difficult to run programmes and download what you need. Some great tips for cleaning up your hard drive include deleting system updates that have been installed, getting rid of temporary files and deleting applications you no longer use. Aim to free up as much as possible and review your storage regularly.

Do a password audit

It’s important that your passwords are complex, unique and secure. The days of using the same password for everything are over, so make sure you check through your passwords and refresh them. There are different ways of creating strong passwords, and you can even use password generators to make things easier.

If you’re worried about remembering all of your passwords, take advantage of your browser’s settings to autofill your passwords. You can access these databases from your other devices like your phone to make sure you can access everything you need.

Check your security settings

Ignoring cybersecurity puts you at risk. Hacking is common, leaving your data vulnerable to thieves. Review your cybersecurity and make sure your computer is protected from viruses and hacks. Remember to run your updates regularly, they’re vital to keeping your computer protected from the latest threats.

As spring-cleaning jobs go, sorting out your computer is one of the most important. A little maintenance can help your computer last longer, and protect it from different threats. Spend some time spring-cleaning your computer and see the difference it makes to its performance.
