The Niagara Falls is a popular travel destination. Most years, around 30 million people visit the area. Including many families with kids.
If you plan travelling to Niagara Falls with small children one day, this article is for you. It is a quick round-up of some of the best places to take them, in and around the area.
Stay somewhere special
Some of the best hotels near Niagara Falls do special deals for families. In particular when the children are young. That means that often you can afford to treat everyone to a nice room. On the Canadian side of the Falls, there is even the chance for you to rent a room that gives you a bird’s eye view of the Horseshoe Falls.
Your children are sure to remember staying somewhere like that. Plus, of course, it gives you a chance to take some wonderful family photos.
Take the Hornblower boat trip
Kids love adventure, so they are bound to enjoy taking a trip on the Hornblower. During the trip, you get taken right up to the base of the Falls. There is a lot of sprays and it is usually quite cold. You are provided with a plastic poncho which will keep you dry. But, it makes sense for everyone to have a lightweight jumper or coat to put on too.
There are several other ways to see the waterfalls. Most adults can’t get enough of them, but most young children will get a bit bored if you take too many of the waterfall related trips. With this in mind for the rest of the post, I am going to suggest a few activities that don’t involve the actual waterfalls.
Take your children swimming
There are several excellent water parks within the Niagara area. The most popular of them is The Great Wolf Lodge, Water Park. But it gets busy, so you might want to take your children to the Fallsview Indoor Waterpark instead.
Get close to nature
On the Canadian side, the area immediately around the Falls is quite built up. But, not far away, there are plenty of opportunities to make sure that your children get plenty of fresh air and can get close to nature. The Butterfly Conservatory is perfect for this. The tour only takes around 20 minutes, which is ideal for small children whose attention span can be limited.
The Bird Kingdom and Marineland Canada are both excellent too. The white-water walk is quite short, but for much of it, you will be on a wooden walkway so it may not be for everyone with children. A picnic in Queen Victoria Park is a must too.
Amusements and shows
For the early evening, a trip to the Clifton Hill Dinosaur Adventure Golf is a great idea. Very quirky and loads of fun.
There are lots of family attractions at Clifton Hill, so it is worth finding out about the fun pass. Provided you plan to visit enough of the attractions during your trip you will save money by buying it.
