You may be wondering why the ? in the title?! Well, let me explain why it wasn’t quite the cake smash I intended . . .
As Jelly Bean’s 2nd birthday approached I knew I wanted to have some special photographs taken and one thing we had never got around to doing with the older Beans was a cake smash. Yesterday morning Jelly Bean and I hopped into the car with the Giant Cupcake I had baked for the occasion. We drove as carefully as we could so as not to smash the cake before the shoot with Kerry Unwin and thankfully arrived with it in one piece.
In my mind, I knew that Jelly Bean perhaps wouldn’t welcome the idea of the Cake Smash as much as me but I was willing to give it a go. Once stripped off with the cake in front of him he looked at Kerry and I as if to say “now what?”. We tried singing happy birthday to him to help ease his shell shock but still, he looked confused. Then I uttered the words he had been longing to hear . . . “do you want to eat a sweetie?” and he was in like Flynn. He wasn’t overly bothered about ‘smashing’ the cake or in fact eating it, he just wanted the sweets.
He had lots of fun with the coloured balls trying to balance them on his head and throwing them around but he was definitely in his element when Kerry ran him a warm bath with rubber ducks whilst I blew bubbles for him. As you can see the results are amazing!! I love the way you can see the sparkle in his eyes, his cheeky grin and still that little hint of a baby in him as he makes way for toddlerhood. I am sooooo pleased that we did this as I will treasure these photographs forever.
If you live local to The Deepings and you are looking for a photographer for your little ones then I couldn’t recommend Kerry enough. She is a Mum to two gorgeous boys and is brilliant with children, a bit of a female Peter Pan. She has an eye for capturing the most natural of shots and will not disappoint!
These are such lovely photos. I don’t blame him for not wanting to smash the cake up, it looked fab!
Aren’t they beautiful?!! I have to admit, the cake was pretty scrummy, even if I do say so myself 🙂
