When Beanie Boy started Reception in September 2015, I was introduced to a new method of recording his progress at school, and I just love it! Tapestry is an online learning journal that the teachers and teaching assistants complete throughout the school day, and I receive notifications via email. I LOVE it!! As a Mum, you often wonder what your little one gets up to at school, so Tapestry is like my little window into Beanie Boy’s school day.
I received these photographs (cropped to remove his friend’s face for privacy).
Beanie Boy and his friends had been given the iPad to take photographs of the puzzle they had been working on together, and then their teacher showed them how to use the camera to take selfies – it looked like they made full use of their time. We have some really fun photographs of our children having fun together.
Before Beanie Boy started Primary School, I worried about how he would settle in. He is a very sensitive little boy, but I’m so grateful for the close bond he shares with his little group of friends, and he seems to be loving school.
It’s also great that I get the opportunity to upload anything that he does at home which I think is relevant to his schooling. At the end of his Reception year, we will be given a disc with all of Beanie Boy’s Tapestry records on it and then we will revert to the paper version of the records next year as he starts Key Stage 1.
We use Tapestry too, I love seeing what he has been up to at school – especially as he never tells me about his day
It’s lovely for that isn’t it?! So often they forget parts of their day or just can’t be bothered but Tapestry is great for prompting conversations 🙂
What a great idea! I have just realised E’s school post lots of photos on Twitter when they are doing certain activities so I have been stalking it ever since.
Aha yes I would be like that too, I just love seeing what they get up to 🙂
