Are you always at a loose end when it comes to family holidays? Is it time for you to find a fresher option to consider for you and your loved ones? If so, there are holiday cottages across the United Kingdom that are perfect for that family time.
What’s more is that there are so many benefits to steering clear of tour holidays and European breaks by sticking in your native country instead.
Creating your own schedule
If you want to stay in one day you can, if you want to blitz the whole of your surroundings another then you can. Whatever you do is completely at the discretion of you and your family – the pick and mix approach is particularly attractive if you have a large family.
Similarly, with big families can come pets – don’t worry though because there are plenty of dog friendly holiday cottages to pick from. We have two for consideration here:
• Abbey Dore Court, Abbey Dore – Found within 12 miles of Hereford, this property is rather special. A unique Victorian Inn, this is set in a rural village that offers grandeur and splendour from the moment that you lay eyes on the building. Six bedrooms means that there is enough room for 16 of you – and they accept two dogs. There are many restaurants, pubs and Wye Valley walks to enjoy from this beautiful base.
• Turnip House, Plaish – Whether you want to enjoy a private woodland walk or a day in the games room, this property caters for all of those needs. Close to Shrewsbury, this farm cottage is a quality conversion that has a pretty village setting and is a great spot for any family to enjoy.
Meal times
Breakfast is between six and nine in the morning, no it’s not – you can have whatever meal times you want. You can’t be stuck with hour to hour trips and itineraries; instead you can do what you want when you want. In fact, you can also cater for any special diets that a member of the family may have.
For this, you need a selection of eateries around – because, let’s be honest, you’re not cooking on your jollies! Here is one of the best:
• Orchard Cottage, Rudyard – In the heart of the Peak District, this is a stunning cottage that sits at the end of a peaceful cul-de-sac. With brilliant access to both Alton Towers and the Peak National Park, there is something for all the family here. What’s more is that you can get to the pub on foot in five minutes.
Privacy
At times, it’s not the hectic schedule that puts people off trips abroad – it’s the fact that a family holiday should be for the family only. That’s not possible on a coach load of people with the same things in mind. A secluded cottage can be much more appealing – here is our pick:
• Mick Moore’s Cottage, Seemacudda – Are you chasing that perfect Irish retreat? If so, then this property in County Waterford is exactly what you want for a family holiday. Sleeping eight, and boasting an open fire, this stone built thatched cottage is set with views of the sweeping mountains and is packed with things to do – but, is also far enough away from civilization to have some private family time
thanks for the post, we love holidaying in a cottage – its perfect with younger kids. We stayed in a lovely cottage last year that was really children friendly (even had books, toys, bikes etc for the kids), was our best holiday yet!
