A Mother’s Day break at Cotswold House Hotel & Spa [AD-GIFTED]

Time flies, doesn’t it? This time last week, my Mum and I were heading off for a break to the Cotswold House Hotel for an early Mother’s Day treat. Every year my Mum takes time off work during the school holidays to help me with the Beans and, of course, to spend time with us. My Mum will always be available at a moment’s notice to offer babysitting services when attending a school function. She will often suggest that she babysits so that Simon and I can have some time out together. For a while now, I have wanted to repay Mum for all of her support because as much as I love my Beans, they aren’t always the easiest and sometimes I think Mum needs a holiday to get over her holidays with us.

We were given a Red Letter Days Castle Hotel Escape for two to celebrate Mother’s Day. Using the voucher, I made a quick call to the hotel bookings line, gave them our voucher booking details and booked to stay the night at the Cotswold House Hotel in Chipping Campden. The process was straightforward, and the staff were accommodating and efficient.

I had been planning a Mother-Daughter trip for a while and chose the Cotswolds because Mum used to live a two-minute drive from Chipping Campden in the village of Broadway over 40 years ago and held a special place in her heart.

First Impressions

Cotswold House Hotel & Spa

Once I had gotten over how pretty and quintessentially English the small town of Chipping Campden, was, I spotted the Cotswold House Hotel standing tall on the Upper High Street directly opposite the town’s main car park.

The website recommends that when you arrive, you should check in with your bags before taking your car to the on-site car park at the back of the hotel. You need to walk through the hotel gardens with gravelled and flagstones, so not ideal if you have a wheely case. We parked our car on the roadside whilst we checked in and then drove to the rear car park. We received a warm welcome from the receptionist, who showed us to our room and explained all that we needed to know about evening dining options, room service and breakfast in the morning.

Twin Room

Our room was a very spacious twin room on the first floor which overlooked the side terrace. The beds were so inviting after a long drive with their big plump pillows and plush headboard. The walls were painted in calming linen colour and wall lights for a cosy feel. There were two Lloyd Loom chairs with cushions, period furniture, a large TV, magazines, tea & fresh coffee facilities, and a fridge. The bathroom had a bath with a shower over and pretty Orla Keilly toiletries (much to Mum’s delight).

Dining Options

Cotswold House Hotel & Spa

There are two dining options available with the informal Bistro on the Square and fine dining in the Fig Restaurant. Breakfast is served in the Fig Restaurant, which is the prettiest room overlooking the garden terrace. In a beautiful soft green hue with white and gold accents, soft furnishings a delicious breakfast, it ensured a perfect start to the day.

Bistro on the Square

The Bistro on the Square provides a relaxed dining experience, perfect for sharing tapas with friends and catching up over drinks. Open all day, 7 days a week The Bistro has an extensive Wine List and Cocktail Menu and an impressive Gin selection.

The Fig Restaurant

Awarded with 2 Rosettes, The Fig Restaurant is open evenings from 7 pm to 9.15 pm Tuesdays to Saturdays and for Afternoon Teas from 2-5 pm 7 days a week. It is recommended that you book in advance.

At the rear of the gardens overlooking the car park is The Spa at Cotswold House, a delightful spa with six treatment rooms, a heated hydrotherapy pool with massaging jets and hydrotherapy lounger and an aromatic steam room for pre and post-treatment use. The Spa facilities are complimentary for all Cotswold House Hotel guests and can be booked separately for non-hotel visitors. The busiest times are usually between 2 pm and 5 pm. We arrived at 10.30 am, and by 12noon, most loungers were occupied.

It’s not often that we Mums actually stop and rest. We are always busy tending to the children or keeping on top of the house, so having this time to relax was just the tonic we needed. The spa offered complimentary magazines and refreshments, so laying back on a lounger in the cosy warm air whilst listening to the water lapping over the side of the pool was pure bliss. Of course, I missed my Beans, but lately, I have begun to recognise the importance of taking some time out for me so that I can be the best version of myself, for them as well as me.

Mum and I relaxed at the spa until lunchtime before heading off on the next leg of our Cotswolds escape, but I’ll tell you more about that in another post.

  1. It’s funny I’ve just read this as this is one of the hotels I was looking at last week! It looks a lovely hotel and we were debating the Cotswolds for a break but decided we might get a bit bored so are having a couple of days in the big smoke instead!

    • Oh really? What a coincidence! The Cotswolds are lovely and this hotel was just perfect. It was only 15 minutes from Stratford-upon-Avon which has lots to do. Perhaps you can give it a try next time x

  2. What a lovely way to spend Mother’s Day. I bet you were glad you read that piece of advice about dropping of your luggage before parking. I could really do with a night away somewhere like this.
