Want to Keep Your Bedroom Warm? Here’s How

Do you feel the cold weather in your bones? Do you feel like your nose will fall off in the winter? There is no denying that there are many cool things about the winter like Christmas, snowfall, and wearing stylish outfits. However, struggling to stay warm in our homes makes us dread this season altogether.

Want to Keep Your Bedroom Warm? Here's How 1

Having a good night’s sleep in the winter may be hard as we toss and turn all night struggling to stay warm. Turning the heater on all season isn’t a solution especially since it will drive up your electricity bill. There are simple yet effective things that you can do to keep your bedroom warm:

Add Warmer Blankets

What can keep us warm at night better than warm bedding? In fact, just the sight of a warm and cosy bed makes us sleepy and eager to jump into it. Add warm blankets and a duvet so you can have a deep and good night’s sleep. If you live in an area where it gets really cold at night and you are looking for extra warmth, you can opt for an electric blanket or an electric mattress as well. However, you need to be careful with electric blankets. Because they can be fire hazards, you should keep them away from children.

When shopping for blankets and duvets, check the fabrics and materials first to ensure they will in fact keep you warm. Another trick that will come in handy during chilly nights is blow-drying your bed sheet right before bed.

Add Rugs

After you wake up from a comfortable sleep under your warm blankets, you will have to get out of bed. However, the moment your feet hit the floor, you will feel the biting cold in every part of your body. Add warm wool floor rugs to your bare floors so your feet experience a cosy feeling the moment you leave the bed. There are many types of rugs on the market but just like blankets, fabric and textures matter.

Find something that will cover the floor to add warmth and comfort. One of the most popular rugs in the world is Turkish rugs because they are made from some of the finest materials like wool and silk. However, you don’t have to travel to Turkey to buy one. Thanks to online stores, you will be able to find a great selection of Turkish rugs at Rug Source in various sizes, colours, and designs that will match your bedroom’s decor. Rugs can also make your room feel cosier and more inviting as well. If you are looking for something that can be an addition to your decor and keep your room warm, then rugs are your best option.

Install Curtains

If you don’t have a curtain in your bedroom, we recommend installing an insulated one. These curtains are perfect during frosty winters as they keep the cold out. You can also install heavy curtains with fabrics that will block out the cold draft, like velvet. Additionally, open your curtains for a few hours every morning to let the warmth of the sun in. Closing the curtain afterwards will retain the heat in your bedroom to keep it warm all night.

Opt for a Hot Water Bottle

We have come to depend on technology for everything in our lives and we have forgotten that sometimes the simplest solutions can be something old school as a water bottle. Before bedtime, place a hot water bottle (or even a couple) under your sheets. Your bed will be so warm that you will forget that it is winter, and you will sleep like a baby.

Adjust Your Thermostat

Naturally, you don’t want to feel cold when you get out of your bed in the morning. Adjusting your thermostat timer to increase the temperature in the early morning will keep your bedroom warm so you won’t freeze as you get ready for work. Additionally, you can remotely turn on your heating system a few hours before you get home to ensure your bedroom will be toasty and pleasant so you can relax after a long day at work.

Move Your Bed

bedroom

If your bed is placed under a window then you are probably struggling to stay warm at night. For this reason, you should move your bed far away from the window. Moving your bed will make a huge difference. Even if there isn’t a free space in your bedroom to move your bed to, you can rearrange all the room’s furniture to make it work. It is worth it, and little Feng Shui can’t hurt.

Check for Cracks and Gaps

Do you feel a cold breeze in your bedroom even though the window and door are closed?  Check your windows to see if there are any cracks or gaps that allow the cold air in and the warm air out. Use your hands to feel your windows and doors (that lead outside) to see where the draft is coming from. Get all the cracks and gaps fixed right away since even the tiniest crack can still make you chilly at night.

Add Lights

As we have all learned from science class, light produces heat. By adding extra lights in your bedroom you can raise its temperature. You can opt for either light bulbs or lamps, but you should choose warm colours like red and yellow to increase the heat. Candles can also do the trick, and you can use scented ones as well to add a nice fragrance. However, you must exercise great caution.  Since candles are fire hazards, ensure you put them out before bed and before you leave the room.

Our bedrooms should be a place of comfort. However, during the cold weather, it can feel more like a freezer than a cosy haven. Keeping your bedroom warm is very simple. You need only cover the bare floors, add warm blankets and duvets to your bed, install insulated curtains, place a hot water bottle under your sheets, adjust your thermostat, move your bed from the window, check for window cracks, or use lights or candles. If you opt for some of the tips mentioned here, you will have a restful sleep all winter.
