Women, in general, have a harder time taking care of their skin because they have to do it while also juggling the responsibilities of being a mum. But with the right hacks and tricks, you can take good care of your skin even when you’re busy. Here are some ways that all mums can take proper care of their skin!
Understand How Your Skin Reacts and What It Needs
Your skin has a huge role to play and it must be taken care of. When you know how your skin reacts, you can understand how to take care of it better. Sensitive skin, for example, needs gentle care. Using products that contain harsh chemicals or even those with added fragrance may irritate the skin further, cause skin purging, and make all the issues you’re trying to solve worse. Oily skin needs a squeaky clean face and just a little step in skincare: sunscreen! Excess sebum production is usually the culprit when it comes to acne breakouts, so keep your face as matte as possible if you have oily skin. Dry skin will look for all means to stay hydrated. Even if it’s cold outside, make sure to use moisturizer if your skin is really dry because it’ll help hold moisture in better.
Sunscreen Is Your Best Friend
The sun isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, so take care of your skin by using a moisturizer with at least SPF 30 or wearing a big hat when going out under direct sunlight. The sun emits harmful UV rays that can cause skin cancer, so be extra careful when it comes to using sunscreen. UV rays affect your skin by drying it out or making it feel hot and irritated, so you won’t want more of that.
Beauty Routine Before Bedtime
It’s easy to get excited about your new beauty products that you bought online, but don’t go overboard on applying them right before bedtime. You need to give your skin time to absorb all the goodness from the products that you’ve applied onto your face by giving it a little rest between each step of your skincare routine because if you apply too much product in one day, especially when they’re heavy-duty creams and serums, your skin will have a hard time processing everything and may even lead to breakouts! If you find yourself constantly on the go and unable to do simple things like washing your face at night, keep some micellar water and cleansing wipes with you so you can cleanse and moisturize even while travelling between work and errands.
Find Out What Causes Your Acne
If acne is a problem for you, then it’s time to get more serious about skincare! Consider keeping a food diary if having breakouts seems to be related to what you’re eating and see if anything stands out. There’s also the more traditional route of seeing a dermatologist, but this might not be an option for most mums (if you can do it, though, we recommend getting yourself checked out asap). Maintain a journal or a spreadsheet detailing how your skin has been for as long as you can remember. Keep track of the products you use, the food you eat, and anything else that may affect your skin condition. This way, if any new changes come up with your skin, you’ll be able to find out what triggers them!
Ensure Good Circulation
Not all of us have time to go to sauna rooms or do yoga just so we can improve our circulation. Luckily, other ways won’t take up too much of your day: sit on a backless stool with your feet on top of another chair! This way, you’ll stretch your legs and ankles while allowing blood to flow through them. You can use gua sha to promote blood flow and remove fatigue, too.
Your Food Choices Affect Your Skin
We’re not just talking about what you eat, but also how you eat it. Food with high water content is best for your skin because they have the highest nutrient value. When you tend to overeat or eat too fast, this can negatively affect your digestive system and make your energy levels go up and down, which may lead to breakouts. Make sure that every meal is portioned properly so you don’t end up eating more than you should! Also try cutting out sugars as much as you can because overloading on sugar will cause inflammation in your body, which can result in facial redness.
Take proper care of your skin by maintaining a good skincare routine. Make sure to use sunscreen when going out under direct sunlight, sleep at least eight hours every night, drink lots of water, eat healthy foods while keeping an eye on portion sizes, and exercise at least once a day!
