Last Sunday the Mummy Matters family were lucky enough to be invited to test-drive the new Hyundai i40 Tourer at Woburn Safari Park and we were not disappointed.
Our first sight of the Hyundai i40 was as we drove up to the Hyundai hub where there were 19 of them lined-up ready for test-drive. The Hyundai i40 is a family car in disguise, very sleek and sporty you wouldn’t guess from first look that it would be so spacious and have the largest boot space in its class. We had two pushchairs with us, a Stokke Xplory and a Maxi-Cosi Noa which both fitted easily into the boot with space for more besides. We didn’t even have to take out the dividers at the sides to make room. The boot space has handy little compartments for further storage as well as a space saver wheel, tool kit and jack.
We were given the Hyundai i40 Tourer Premium which has leather seats, front and rear parking sensors as well as integral rear parking camera, panoramic sunroof with tilt and slide to keep you closer to nature (though not too close in the monkey enclosure thank goodness!). Keyless start/stop technology meant I didn’t even have to take the key out of my handbag, the car knew it was there so all I had to do was start the engine with the push of a button. I was feeling a little lazy and asked if I could drive an automatic but as usual I had arrived late so I had missed the automatics. To make life a little easier on me though was the brilliant auto-hold feature to help me out with undulating roads through each enclosure. Once I had started the car all I had to do to activate auto-hold was press the auto-hold button and depress the brake at the same time and a green light on the dashboard indicated that I was ready to go. Each time I stopped the car the brake was automatically applied and then to drive on I just had to accelerate as normal.
We had Little Bean and Beanie Boy with us who had more than enough room in the back seats, seeing the leg room behind the front seats it was clear to see that there would be more than enough room for adults too. The only downside from the children’s point of view was that the windows are set quite high up because of the fluid lines of the car. Little Bean could just about see out of her window but Beanie Boy could only look at the door or the sky. Hubby and I are both of the long-legged variety and we both had ample space in the front without feeling claustrophobic. The drivers seat had memory technology so if we had a Hyundai i40 Tourer we could programme the seat to our individual preferences and save on the arguments of who moved the seat last.
Since we were only allowed to drive the Hyundai i40 Tourer around the Safari Park we didn’t really get to open her up so I can’t comment on the power behind the wheel but what I will say is how smooth the ride was and how quiet the engine was.
As with all Hyundai’s the technology is second-to-none with Bluetooth technology with Voice recognition, safety features like ESP and vehicle stability management, touch-screen satellite navigation with rear view parking camera (Style and Premium models) and MP3 compatibility, USB/Aux connections as standard keeping the family entertained.
As you can see from my site, I do like the Hyundai cars and this is definitely a car which I would consider for me and my family.
