The NSPCC is inviting local people to come to an event at Newnham College in Cambridge this month to find out more about their work protecting children in the East of England.
Date for your diary
The NSPCC Supporters’ Day 2018 is taking place one Thursday, April 19 and is open to existing supporters and volunteers as well as anyone interested in finding out more about the charity’s activities.
What’s on?
Highlights of the day include a ‘Speak out, Stay Safe’ NSPCC Schools Service assembly, which teaches primary school children to recognise and report abuse; a talk about Childline and the services it provides for children and young people; and opportunities to speak to NSPCC representatives about how we work with volunteers to protect children.
In 2016/17, the Speak Out Stay Safe programme spoke to 20,823 children in Cambridgeshire, and visited 68 local schools to deliver our Schools Service programme, teaching children how to keep themselves safe.
NSPCC volunteer Debra Boam from East Cambridgeshire said “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the NSPCC, and good support and training are provided.
“I have met many interesting people and made good friends with the other volunteers.
“The message to children that the Schools Service provides is an extremely important one, so the fact that I’ve been involved with delivering that is extremely rewarding.”
Christian Morris, Head of Fundraising for the East of England, said, “This event is all about informing our local supporters and future potential supporters about the difference the NSPCC makes across the region thanks to their help.”
