Babies grow far too quickly we complain about that all the time. On the one hand, as parents we are eager for them to hit their next milestone but on the other, we want them to stay as cute snuggly little babies. Look at Jelly Bean for example, he is 9 months and has definitely mastered the art of S.A.S. style crawling, he can quickly get from one end of the house to the other if he spots something that takes his fancy. He is strong in his upper body but he pretty much just drags his legs behind him. When stationary he will move up onto his knees and rock back and forth but then slides back down to his tummy to crawl again.
A little while ago I was sent a Creeper Crawlers crawl suit for Jelly Bean to try which has clever non-slip ‘bug’ patches on the feet and lower legs which helps baby to get traction to help them in the early stages of crawling. Initially I was excited at the idea of the suit but then when I thought about how Jelly Bean will be my last baby I admit I kept putting off trying him in it because I don’t want him to progress too quickly (especially with Christmas being so close and the imminent arrival of a Christmas tree to keep him away from!!) but I also don’t want to ever hold my children back, I want them to progress at their own pace.
This week I put Jelly Bean into his Creeper Crawlers crawl suit whenever we were spending time in the lounge to give him ample opportunity to get crawling underway. I was surprised at how often he lifted himself up onto his knees and managed to stay that way for longer. He has started to crawl on his hands and knees just yet but I have no qualms that he will be soon (right about the same time that the Christmas tree goes up).
*I wrote this post last week and forgot to publish! since writing the post, one week on Jelly Bean is now crawling on his knees and getting into EVERYTHING!! Maybe it’s with ‘thanks’ to the suit, maybe it’s just his natural progression? Who knows but either way, the Christmas tree had better watch out!
