Being self-employed and working from home is definitely the best lifestyle choice that I ever made for myself and for my family but it’s not always easy. As my own boss, I only have myself to answer to when I want to take time off to watch the children in a performance at school or when booking in a long overdue catch up with friends. This is where I also find out what a hard-nosed boss I am to myself because if I do take time off, I make sure that the time is made up later, often to my own detriment.
Late Nights
Speaking to other friends who are self-employed at home or indeed those in employment who work from home, they all say the same thing. It’s hard to switch off and enjoy some downtime. I tend to stop work in order to collect the children from school and then I don’t work again until they have gone to bed, working late into the evening. I used to have my lights on a timer switch set to go off at 10 pm to signal it was time to switch the computer on but I would just work on regardless, in the dark. It’s no surprise then that when I do get to bed anywhere between 11 pm and 1 am that my brain can’t switch off and I lay wide away thinking about all the jobs I need to do the following day.
Time for a change
I have known for a while that I couldn’t continue in this way and that changes needed to be made because I would be overtired in the mornings and then couldn’t focus on my work in the day. So when I was contacted by Utmost Me to trial their and natural remedies I decided it was worth a try.
Who are Utmost Me?
In 2016 after years of wrestling with falling asleep and staying asleep on top of the usual sleep deprivation that comes with parenting, Utmost Me CEO and Founder, Richard Turnbull decided it was time to make a change. Richard was tired of ‘existing’ and not being fully in the moment with his family or producing his best work in his corporate job. He began to research brain activity, energy and focus. He made the recommended changes and saw some improvement but not enough to function at 100%
Richard searched for natural products which would (a) help him sleep and (b) help him to focus but found nothing available so he spent the next 12 months working with health experts to develop products that actually work.
Neuro Rest
For the past two weeks, I have been using Neuro Rest in the evening when I have closed down my laptop. I take one capsule 30 minutes before I plan to go to bed. The Sleep blend is designed to reduce fatigue and tiredness whilst increasing serotonin, the feel-good hormone. It took a few days before I began to notice any changes but towards the end of the first week, I found that I was falling asleep easier. Even my husband had commented that I had stopped tossing and turning in bed which always kept him awake too.
Neuro Focus Plus
The Neuro Focus Plus is a natural blend of Nootropic which is foods and dietary supplements that support the brain function for focus, memory and concentration. The plant-based ingredients used in the Neuro Focus supplement has been clinically proven to support Alpha Brain Wave which is responsible for creative thinking, concentration during stress, and the synthesis of natural neurotransmitters.
This is perhaps where I have noticed the greatest changes within myself. For the past few months I have struggled to stay focused at home, I have found myself being swayed by Inbox, my social media notifications, the dog, my phone . . . . the list goes on. My focus has been everywhere but my blog. Within days of taking Neuro Focus Plus, I have felt like a new person, my writing has improved. I have reduced my outstanding posts list by more than a half in less than a week AND I have managed to keep the house clean (well I was until I fractured my ankle). In short, I have felt like the fog has been lifted and whilst I am on task, that is exactly where I stay until the job is done. For the first time, in a long time, I feel like my old self again.
The knock-on effect of this, of course, is that my work is now being done during the day, which means I haven’t been switching my laptop on in the evening and I have been getting to bed earlier so I am winning all around.
