I should start this post by saying that I am a huge Twilight fan, I was introduced first to the books which I literally could not put down and then I watched the films and am eagerly awaiting the final part to hit the cinemas in November. So when The Vampire Diaries hit our screens I decided that it was probably just a rubbish jump-on-the-bandwagon type of show and I decided not to watch it.
Of course, as time went on and I saw the odd trailer here and there, or overheard conversations about The Vampire Diaries I began to get intrigued, perhaps I had made the wrong decision. Everyone only had good things to say about it but by then I felt I had missed too much. I hate watching new series from somewhere in the middle and so I figured that one day I would get around to catching up and then Warner Bros gave me that chance when they asked if I would be interested in reviewing Season 1.
Set in the town of Mystic Falls a beautiful young girl by the name of Elena Gilbert is trying to rebuild her life after the tragic loss of her parents. As the new school year begins Elena is mesmerized by the hot young guy name Stefan who just happens to be a vampire. Stefan can’t believe his eyes when he sees Elena as she is the double of his love Katherine from 150 years ago. But there is a twist, Stefan has a brother Damon who also loved Katherine and so the tale of sibling rivalry ensues. The Vampire Diaries has many characters, living and undead who each have their own tale to tell and play their own part in the town of Mystic Falls.
In answer to my own previous preconceptions about The Vampire Diaries, it is completely different from the Twilight Series. Still good but very different and just as easily pulls you in. I have to say after just a few episodes I was hooked and will now be adding Seasons 2 and 3 to my Christmas wishlist. What is it about these handsome vampires that we find so enthralling?
If, like me, you are late to The Vampire Diaries OR you were a big fan and want to start watching them all over again then you can get your box sets from Warner Bros and fans will be very pleased to know that Season 3 is in the shops now!
