Reading doesn’t come naturally to everyone and so picking up a traditional book may not always be the best form of learning for some. Alternatively, if you do have a child who enjoys learning to read, it can be helpful to find additional ways of keeping their reading journey fun. I was recently asked if I would like to trial Reading Eggs with Little Bean, so I signed up for an account and trial period then set to work on introducing Little Bean to it.
There are two online literacy reading programs available; Reading Eggs (for 3-7 year olds) and Reading Eggspress (for 7-13 year olds) which enable children to learn to read through educational games and activities which gives them a positive attitude towards reading and learning through play.
Once I had set up our account Little Bean had two options, she could take a simple test to assess her reading standard or she could just start at the very beginning. Little Bean chose to take the test and I was happy for her to do so. The test consists of 60 multiple choice questions, once the child has incorrectly answered 3 questions the test stops and that determines their reading level for the program. Little Bean got approximately half way through the 60 questions but in my eyes she made silly mistakes because she was getting a little ‘flippant’ with her fingers on the iPad so she selected answers by mistake when she was heading for the answer adjacent. Nevertheless she had a place to start and has been working her way through the different exercises. I never push her to complete any of the tasks, thankfully I am finding more and more that she wants to do it for herself and she gets great satisfaction when she does well and since starting the course she has moved up a level in her reading books at school so it has definitely made a difference.
If you would like to try out Reading Eggs with your child then simply enter the code UKB26RET which will give you a 4 week free trial instead of the usual 2 week free trial which all new registrations receive.
Good luck and happy learning!
