A groundbreaking campaign to empower and celebrate the future leaders among young girls
Festival of the Girl is proud to launch its first-ever awards campaign, designed to inspire girls to uplift each other and aspire to be tomorrow’s leaders. This initiative aims to build self-esteem, boost confidence, and encourage young girls to use their voices.
Why These Awards Matter
In a world where gender stereotypes and female rivalry are still prevalent—often reinforced by media narratives like “Swift vs. Beyoncé” or dismissive phrases like “girls will be girls”—the Festival of the Girl Awards seek to counter these messages. Festival of the Girl aims to build confidence and self-esteem in the next generation, helping them support and celebrate each other.
The need for such an initiative is clear. Only 15% of UK girls believe politicians act in their best interest, and nearly half (47%) have lost trust in them over the past three years. With women now representing 40% of MPs in the UK and the potential of a female U.S. president on the horizon, it’s more important than ever to inspire girls to believe in the power of female leadership.
As we approach the 2024 General Election, 20% of women felt uninspired to vote or didn’t feel their voice mattered. The Festival of the Girl Awards aim to change this trajectory by instilling a sense of agency and confidence in the future generation of women voters.
Awards Categories
Girls aged 7-11 were invited, with the help of parents and carers, to nominate an exceptional girl in their life for one of the following awards:
- Inspiring Girl 2024 Award: Nominate someone who has inspired you recently by showing bravery, standing up for others, overcoming challenges, or working hard toward a goal.
- Loyalty and Friendship 2024 Award: Nominate a best friend who has shown incredible friendship, supported others, or gone out of their way to cheer someone up during tough times.
- Leader and Changemaker 2024 Award: Recognize a girl who has made a difference in her school or community, whether by campaigning for a cause, inspiring others, or leading change.
The Awards Ceremony
The Festival of The Girl Awards Ceremony, sponsored by V2 Design, will be held on Saturday, 5th October 2024, at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London. This inspiring event will feature an incredible panel of judges, beautiful awards, and exciting presenters.
