The Devil Wears Prada Musical at Dominion Theatre – A New Musical Experience with Vanessa Williams

I am still smiling today with memories of a great day in London, starting with a delicious lunch at The Ivy, where I felt bad breaking into the cutest Snowman Dessert before heading to the theatre to see The Devil Wears Prada Musical. Michelle and I look forward to our celebration day; we don’t buy each other gifts for Christmas and Birthdays. Instead, we go to see a show and enjoy a delicious meal.

Attending The Devil Wears Prada at London’s Dominion Theatre with Michelle was a thrilling experience right from the start, especially hearing Matt King as Nigel deliver the iconic line from the movie “Gird Your Loins” as the staff prepared for Miranda’s arrival in the office. The production is stylish and sharp; this new musical is a fitting adaptation of Lauren Weisberger’s bestselling novel and the blockbuster film we all know and love.

Vanessa Williams shined as Miranda Priestly, embodying the powerful editor-in-chief of Runway magazine with elegance and fierceness. Georgie Buckland took on Andy Sachs, the aspiring journalist who landed a job at Runway, only to realise how intense and life-consuming fashion can be. Amy Di Bartolomeo brought humour to Emily’s role, delivering unforgettable lines like, “I’m sorry, do you have some prior commitment? Some hideous skirt convention you have to go to?” which had the audience, including Michelle and I, in stitches.

A fresh take for 2024, this new musical features an original score by Elton John that infuses Andy’s journey with an upbeat, sometimes intense energy as she navigates the glamorous yet demanding world of fashion. The musical numbers brought a modern vibrance that paired well with the story’s deeper themes of ambition and self-worth. Jerry Mitchell’s direction and choreography ensured each scene flowed with the stylish, high-paced rhythm of Miranda’s fashion empire.

As Andy tries to survive Miranda’s impossible demands, she faces tough questions: how far will she go to succeed? Is it worth selling her soul to get what she’s always wanted?

The Dominion Theatre audience could feel Andy’s struggle as she became seduced by a glamorous world she once despised, yet questioning if it’s worth sacrificing her personal life and relationship for.

With iconic lines and powerful performances, The Devil Wears Prada musical at Dominion Theatre is one of London’s most talked-about productions this year. For fans of the 2006 film and Meryl Streep’s original portrayal of Miranda Priestly, Vanessa Williams makes this West End debut unforgettable. If you’re in the market for a London theatre experience that combines wit, glamour, and nostalgia, The Devil Wears Prada is not to be missed.
