If you have been following my blog and social media accounts for a while you will have seen that this year I have been trying to focus my efforts on becoming a healthier version of me, I set myself a few #HealthGoals. Before having children I was a regular gym-goer and ate reasonably healthily but the demands of being a busy Mum to three little people has meant that I have let my own wellbeing slip somewhat over recent years.
Aside from joining the gym and turning my focus to healthy eating I have also discovered some tasty Detox Water Recipes which are helping me rid myself of all those nasty toxins (wine and chocolate do not count right?). I actually stumbled across the Detox Water Recipes whilst researching water filtering when I became the proud owner of a Brita filter kettle. As a family we have been filtering our water for many years; living in a hard water area means our water can sometimes taste a little metallic, filtering our water makes it taste better.
Why drink detox water?
Detox water, also known as ‘infused’ water will help to kick start your metabolism, provide nutrients in a natural way and support your liver. Some recipes are packed with natural antioxidants which can reverse cell damage too.
Drinking water alone is a great way to flush out your body and help to reduce bloating, something that many of us will be happy to hear. You can search for recipes online if you need some inspiration or just experiment with adding different fruits and herbs to your water. These are two of my personal favourites.
Cucumber Lemon Water
The lemon helps to flush out the toxins, Vitamin C will give skin a healthy glow and the cucumber is a natural diuretic.
- Half cucumber
- 1 lemon
- Mint leaves
- Filtered water
Wash cucumber and lemon before slicing and placing into a jug of filtered water. Rinse mint leaves and place into the jug then leave to steep overnight in the refrigerator. Water can be topped up daily until the fruit/mint needs replacing.
Strawberry Grapefruit Water
This is very tasty water which is great for detoxing, helps weight loss and perfect for fighting bugs and viruses. Strawberries are packed with antioxidants which boost the metabolism, regulate blood sugar and suppress the appetite because they are full of fibre.
- 6 Strawberries
- 1 Grapefruit
- 1 Lemon
- Filtered Water
Wash all fruit and cut into slices then place into a jug of filtered water. Allow the fruit to steep overnight in the fridge.
Both of these are very refreshing drinks which will quench your thirst and make you feel good.
My feel better drink
Now this one isn’t a detox drink as such but it’s my go-to drink when I am feeling under the weather. For a long time, I used to drink just boiled water because I wanted to drink less tea and coffee but then I started to drink hot lemon and now I add honey and pinch of cinnamon, it’s a great winter warmer especially when you have a sore throat.[amazon_link asins=’B000B4UHHQ,B0725YHBDD,B01F3P14EM,B00AA9ZHW2′ template=’ProductCarousel’ store=’mummmatt-21′ marketplace=’UK’ link_id=’782abac8-db42-11e7-b774-f95c52de5c59′]
