The best places to caravan and camp in the UK as a family

When thinking of your next family trip, sometimes it pays to look a little closer to home. Here in the UK, we’re spoilt for choice. With an abundance of wonderful holiday destinations on our doorstep, the UK not only has it all but also caters to all.

Caravan and camp in the UK

A great way to truly appreciate all that the UK has to offer is by camping, caravanning, or heading off in your motorhome. The Caravan and Motorhome Club and The Camping and Caravan Club – show partners to The Caravan and Motorhome Show which is returning to EventCity, Manchester, from 16th – 19th January 2020 – have shared their top tips and expert advice on the best places to caravan and camp in the UK as a family.

Why choose a Touring Holiday?

Touring holidays make wonderful family trips and are a great way to get children to explore the UK,” says Harvey Alexander, The Caravan and Motorhome Club Director of Marketing.

He continues, “Caravan or motorhome trips are an amazing first holiday for families. It’s wonderful being able to get back to nature with small children, and the freedom of a motorhome or caravan means you can explore wherever in Britain or Europe you’d like.

“Whilst all of the club’s campsites are child-friendly, there are some that have particularly magnificent facilities for little ones, including on-site entertainment, specific baby and toddler washrooms and great playgrounds. Some destinations are also more child-friendly, with soft play areas and other children’s activities nearby.

Our favourite family-friendly destinations include Devon, where families can make the most of the beautiful British coast and countryside, with the amazing Dartmoor National Park and a huge range of beaches. Hillhead Club Campsite has exceptional kid’s facilities, with an outdoor heated pool, kid’s pool, playground, games room and play area.”

For others, camping offers more flexibility and the chance to disconnect from technology and reconnect with loved ones. Getting ‘back to basics’, camping can provide the backdrop for some wonderfully memorable experiences.

The Camping and Caravanning Club

Camping in Style

With a Club Site network of 105, The Camping and Caravanning Club has some great destinations for all the family, come rain or shine.

Slapton Sands Club Site has all the ingredients for the perfect family beach holiday. Located on the picturesque South Devon Heritage Coast, Slapton Sands club site is surrounded by rolling countryside and plenty of grass pitches – perfect for kids to run around. With plenty of coastal walks to be enjoyed, a beach only a stone’s throw away, a freshwater lagoon and an onsite children’s play area, Slapton Sands is ideal for families wanting to get back to nature.

For those looking for a nostalgic family holiday, Scarborough Camping and Caravanning Club Site is the place to be. With a play park, large football pitch and recreation room for young campers, there is also a beach that’s a short cliff-top walk from the campsite and the town of Scarborough is just 1.5 miles away – perfect for a family day out.

With so much on offer across the UK, the pressure can mount for family holidays to be a big success but with campsites offering an abundance of things-to-do, caravan and camping holidays allow people to enjoy new experiences every day, regardless of age.
