There’s something truly special about the Riverside Beads Craft Retreat – and this year, held once again at the breathtaking Molecey Mill just outside Market Deeping, it absolutely lived up to its reputation as a haven of creativity, learning, and connection.
As a tutor, it was my third year teaching at this wonderful event, and it’s a date I circle on my calendar the moment it’s announced. Whether you’re an experienced crafter or a complete beginner, there’s a place for everyone at this retreat.
A Historic Setting Full of Charm
Set in the heart of Lincolnshire, Molecey Mill and the surrounding Granary properties offer the perfect backdrop for a creative escape. The buildings date back before the Domesday Book and are Grade II* listed, steeped in history with period architecture, huge oak beams, and exposed stonework that instantly sets the scene for something truly magical.
The grounds are just as impressive – flowing streams, peaceful ponds, sculptures, bridges, and inspiring artworks make it a pleasure just to stroll during your break between workshops.
A Full Programme of Creativity
This year, I had the pleasure of teaching how to make a beaded suncatcher using large sticks, wire, and a beautiful selection of beads. Watching guests shape their ideas and create something so personal by hand is one of the highlights of being a tutor here.
Over the three days, a wide range of workshops were available from 9am to 4:30pm, covering everything from paperwork and polymer clay to crystals, silver art clay, and even painting on acrylics. The Riverside team (Donna, Caroline, Heidi, Lucy and many others) are the beating heart of the retreat – always smiling, always helpful, and full of expert knowledge.
Each workshop includes all the materials you need, so guests can simply bring themselves and their creativity. If you don’t finish your project during class time, you’re welcome to take it home and complete it at your leisure – a lovely option for those who prefer to work at their own pace.
Workshops in Inspiring Spaces
One of the things that makes the Riverside Retreat so special is the setting of the workshops. There’s a bright and spacious indoor classroom surrounded by art, and when the weather is kind (which it always seems to be!), classes are held in the stunning outdoor classroom area.
The team also put on a delicious food spread, with highlights like the welcome BBQ that helps guests mingle and put faces to familiar Facebook names. With so many returning each year – and bringing friends from as far afield as Cornwall – it’s clear this event has built a real community.
A Guest and a Student Too
Though I go as a tutor, I often end up staying for the day to soak up the atmosphere and join other workshops too. My mum and Lillie often come with me and love it just as much as I do. There’s a relaxing, friendly atmosphere throughout the retreat, making it easy to unwind, explore new crafts, and enjoy a bit of “me time.”
Whether you stay for the full three days or join in with a day workshop, the retreat is an unforgettable experience. The creativity, the people, the stunning location – it’s no wonder so many return year after year.
