Wychwood Festival 2026 Review: A Brilliant Weekend at Cheltenham Racecourse

Wychwood Festival 2026 marked the event’s landmark 20th anniversary, and after spending the weekend camping with my family at Cheltenham Racecourse, I can honestly say it reminded us exactly why we keep coming back.

This was our third year attending the festival and, despite a couple of minor disappointments, it delivered everything we’ve come to love about this wonderful family event: fantastic music, a relaxed atmosphere, plenty for children to do, friendly people and memories that will last long after the tents have been packed away.

If you’re considering attending Wychwood Festival in the future, here’s our honest review of the weekend.

Wychwood Festival 2026 Line-Up: Something for Everyone

The Wychwood Festival 2026 line-up offered a fantastic mix of established favourites, indie legends, family entertainment and festival favourites.

Over the weekend, we managed to catch:

Although Craig David Presents TS5 was advertised beforehand, his cancellation was undoubtedly one of the biggest disappointments of the weekend.

That said, there was more than enough quality on every stage to keep festival-goers entertained from morning until night.

Kaiser Chiefs Stole the Show

If I had to choose one standout performance from the entire weekend, it would be Kaiser Chiefs.

From the moment Ricky Wilson stepped onto the stage, the atmosphere completely changed. The energy was electric, the crowd sang every word, and it felt like the entire field was bouncing together.

Even my children, who have grown up attending festivals, agreed they were the highlight of the weekend.

We were incredibly lucky to be given official set lists from Kaiser Chiefs, Maximo Park and Everything Everything afterwards, which made an already memorable weekend feel even more special.

Other standout performances included:

Each brought something completely different, showcasing just how strong the overall lineup was.

Why Wychwood Remains the Family Festival of the Year

There is a reason Wychwood won Family Friendly Festival of the Year.

Unlike some larger UK festivals, there is a genuine sense of community here. Families, couples, groups of friends and music lovers of all ages come together in a way that feels welcoming and inclusive.

Even though we noticed more groups of teenagers attending this year, the atmosphere remained friendly throughout the weekend.

One thing we particularly love is how easy it is to get close to the action. We watched many of the headline acts from right at the front without ever feeling unsafe or overcrowded.

As a parent, that’s something I really appreciate.

Family Activities Beyond the Music

While the music is a huge part of the appeal, there is so much more to Wychwood than the bands.

Every year Lillie and I make time for the screen-printing workshop and this year was no exception. For the 20th anniversary, we created commemorative tote bags that will always remind us of this special weekend.

Meanwhile, the boys spent plenty of time enjoying:

• Activities on the Nivea Bus
• Traditional games
• Circus activities
• Interactive family entertainment

These have become part of our annual Wychwood tradition.

Camping at Wychwood Festival 2026

We chose to camp in the main camping field, close to the showers.

The location worked brilliantly for us. There was plenty of space between tents, and the walk into the festival arena was manageable even after a long day.

One noticeable change this year was the number of toilets available in the campsite.

Many campers commented that there appeared to be fewer facilities than in previous years. The men in our group also felt that additional urinals would have helped reduce queues further.

That said, the longest wait we experienced was around five minutes.

The shower facilities were actually improved compared to previous years. Stewards regularly monitored the units and reset them whenever water pressure dropped, which helped keep everything running smoothly.

Security staff were visible throughout the site and were consistently friendly, approachable and helpful.

The Food Was Better Than Ever

One thing that really stood out this year was the variety of food available.

Some of our family favourites included:

• The Melted Cheese Company for comforting bowls of mac and cheese
• Freshly made pizzas
• Loaded Yorkshire puddings filled with roast chicken and vegetables
• Churros for late-night treats (sorry no photos – they were demolished too fast!)

Portion sizes were generous, and prices felt surprisingly reasonable for a music festival.

There seemed to be a wider range of food options compared with previous years, although we did notice slightly fewer shopping concessions around the site.

Tips for First-Time Wychwood Festival Visitors

If you’re planning to buy a ticket when future events go on sale, these are my top tips:

Check the timetable before you arrive

The line-up is always packed, and it’s impossible to see everything.

Identify your must-see acts early so you can plan your weekend.

Explore the site first

We always take a walk around before settling into the day.

Knowing where the stages, food vendors, toilets and family areas are makes the whole experience much easier.

Talk to younger children about safety

Our children are older now and happy to explore independently.

For younger children, point out security staff and agree on a meeting point in case anyone gets separated.

Pack for all weather

This is a UK festival after all.

Sunshine, rain, wind and chilly evenings can all happen during the same weekend.

Celebrating Wychwood’s 20th Anniversary

Despite being a landmark 20th anniversary, the celebrations felt true to what Wychwood does best.

Rather than becoming overly commercial, the focus remained firmly on creating a fantastic family-friendly experience.

Special anniversary merchandise and reusable commemorative cups were available throughout the site, providing lovely keepsakes for regular attendees.

Is Wychwood Festival Worth It?

Absolutely.

For us, Wychwood continues to strike the perfect balance between a major music festival and a relaxed family weekend away.

The music was exceptional, the atmosphere was welcoming, the activities kept everyone entertained, and the overall organisation was impressive.

Would I like to see more campsite toilets next year? Yes.

Was I disappointed by the Craig David cancellation? Of course.

But neither issue came close to overshadowing what was otherwise an outstanding weekend.

After three years of attending, Wychwood remains one of our favourite festivals in the UK, and we fully expect to return again.

Looking Ahead to Wychwood Festival 2027

One of the most exciting announcements of the weekend came before we had even packed away our tent.

The organisers have already confirmed that The Human League will headline Wychwood Festival 2027, giving festival fans plenty to look forward to next year.

The festival will return to Cheltenham Racecourse from 4th to 6th June 2027, bringing another weekend of live music, family entertainment, workshops, comedy and camping to Gloucestershire.

As long-time fans of the festival, we’re already curious to see who else joins the 2027 line-up. If this year’s event is anything to go by, festival-goers can expect another carefully curated mix of legendary acts, emerging talent and family-friendly entertainment.

After such a successful 20th anniversary celebration, The Human League feels like a fitting first announcement for next year’s festival, and I’m sure plenty of families will already be planning their return.
