Let 2026 Be Your Year To Make Practical Plans For The Future

In the middle of carrying out a few new year’s resolutions you made? Good for you! It’s nice to have some actionable goals to work toward and if you’ve stuck them out thus far and have made some good progress, you’ve set yourself up for a very good year ahead.

And while you’re at it, we want to talk to you about something: the future. Because 2026 might just be the best year to lay down some practical, step by step plans for what you want life to look like in 20+ years’ time.

Even if you’re in your mid 20s right now and feel you don’t need to think about it, jotting down a few things you want to be sure of in later life is crucial. And to keep things practical, here are the kind of things to think about.

Your Finances

Obviously! Future planning is all about making sure you’ve got enough money to live comfortably, see your life change in expensive ways, and still go to sleep at night without fears over your finances.

Because of that, 2026 might be the year you finally take out a pension. Or it might be the year you actually look seriously into investment funds and how they work. It might even just be the year you finally max out your ISA limit!

Whatever financial position you’re in right now, think about what you can do to put money by. Even little by little, the pennies add up.

Your Retirement

Whether it’s a long time away yet or you can imagine it coming up in the next 15 to 20 years, now’s a very good time to have a proper think about your retirement.

And not just in terms of what you’ve got saved up, what pensions or investments you have to rely on, etc. You also should think about what it’s going to mean for you and your life.

Because retiring simply means you’ll no longer be working a living. You’ve done your time and now you get to enjoy a work-free lifestyle!

Many people end up having a bit of a problem with this. In that, if your days aren’t spent toiling away, what else can you do with them?

Don’t let the same kind of thing creep up on you. Think about what you want to do, once you’re retired, and how you plan to enjoy your new free time.

Think about who you’ll spend it with, and how you’ll make sure you still have a strong social life. And don’t just think about your immediate family here, such as your kids and partner.

Think about friends too. Where will they be? And would you want to move into a Retirement Community at some point, to be surrounded by like-minded people with the same kind of life experience?

Practical Planning in 2026

We all need to do a bit more of it! So make sure you’re touching on the bigger questions this year.
