3 Things An Employer Owes You

When you are thinking about going back to work after kids, there is a lot that you are going to have to consider. It should be so basic that it doesn’t even need mentioning, but unfortunately, we live in a world where it is still perfectly possible to be mispaid, unpaid, lately paid, or unfairly paid. You need to get to grips with what counts as poor pay and what doesn’t, as that is the only way to ensure that you are going to keep your wits about you on this subject. It also helps you to fight your case should you find yourself in a position where you are having to dispute your payment with your employer. In general, you can expect fair pay for the work you do (at the very least, of course, minimum wage). You should also earn the same as anyone else in the same role with the same level of experience. If those are not the case, you can take it up with your employer, your union or by taking legal action.

You also have the right not to fear being harmed at work, either by other people or by accidents in the workplace. Your employer has to make sure that they are doing everything in their power to keep the workplace as safe as possible. They also need to have rules in place about conduct, so that people can’t purposefully harm you or abuse you. Of course, we all get stressed from time to time at work, and this is normal. But if your employer does so to the point where they are routinely unkind to you, then you have the right to do something about this. Really they should be making every effort to be friendly towards you, and if you find that this is not happening then you can take it further.
