Moreton Camping and Caravanning Club Site Review | Camping in Dorset

We recently enjoyed a fantastic family holiday at the Moreton Camping and Caravanning Club Site in beautiful Dorset, and it turned out to be one of the most relaxing and memorable trips we’ve had. Nestled in the heart of Wessex and surrounded by an area of outstanding natural beauty, the campsite was everything we hoped for and more. Whether you’re travelling by caravan, motorhome, or tent, this caravanning club site in Dorset really does cater for everyone.

It’s also worth noting the site had just undergone a huge refurbishment with stunning new facilities blocks and shop.

Finding the Moreton Camping and Caravanning Club Site

Moreton Camping and Caravanning Club Site

Travelling down from Peterborough, we found the Moreton Camping and Caravanning Club easy to locate. The site entrance was clearly signposted and just a stone’s throw from Moreton Station, making it perfect if you want to leave the car and explore by train.

The station next to the campsite was handy for day trips to Poole and Bournemouth, Weymouth, and beyond. Plus, being situated in the sleepy village of Moreton, it felt wonderfully peaceful. The train track does run alongside the campsite and trains do blow their whistles from time to time but after the first day we didn’t hear them again and we slept like a log!!

Checking in at the Campsite

The check-in process at this club campsite was smooth and efficient. The staff were very friendly and gave us lots of useful information about the walking trails, local attractions, and dog walk areas. We were given the opportunity to choose our own pitch (we opted for a spacious back left corner pitch which was perfect. If you have a caravan you can choose between a hardstanding pitch or a grass pitch if preferred.

The campsite is on routes to some of the South’s best locations, so it was an ideal base for our camping holidays.

Facilities at Moreton Camping and Caravanning Club

The site offers a good range of facilities and was spacious with a good range of pitches to suit different needs. The information room by Reception was packed with leaflets and maps, and there were two amenity blocks, both spotlessly clean and modern.

There’s a large children’s play area next to the camping field and dog walking area, perfect for the kids to burn off energy. It featured a variety of equipment, but we spent so much time out and about that the boys hardly had a chance to get to the play area!

Free wifi was available, and the mobile phone reception was stable across the campsite, we never felt disconnected – which can be good and bad in equal measures.

Exploring Dorset from Moreton Campsite

Weymouth Beach
Weymouth Town Centre
Weymouth Harbour

The Moreton campsite is ideally located for exploring Dorset, with Dorchester only a short drive away. We spent a day wandering around Dorchester in Dorset, visiting the county town’s town’s borough gardens, and learning more about the life of Thomas Hardy, who was born nearby.

If you love history, Clouds Hill, the home of T.E. Lawrence, is only a mile from the site, and attractions in the area include the tank museum at Bovington, just a 10-minute drive away, and the Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre in Wareham, which is perfect for families and one of our favourite days out.

Beach lovers are spoiled for choice with routes to Weymouth, Lulworth, and Corfe. We had planned to visit Lulworth Cove, explore the stunning coastline, and Corfe Castle , but it was the lead up to Camp Bestival, so we gave it a miss this time. We will be back! We all loved Weymouth, where we watched Beach Volleyball Championships and paddled in the shallow water, we walked along the harbour picking out our favourite boats, and we drove a little further afield to Sandbanks, where we had a fantastic day at the beach.

On a slightly drizzly day we went over to Portland and explored Portland Castle which was really interesting. The plan had been to go over to Portland Bill but we ran out of time as we like to take things slow on holiday – plus it’s always good to have a reason to go back to your favourite holiday spots.
