Managing money can be one of the most difficult things for you to get your head around when you’re young, but also if you have to make your money stretch further than you would like, and in a number of other instances also. It’s likely that everyone will have some point in their life that they struggle with their finances, and it’s okay, despite what you might think.

While it’s not ideal for you, it’s certainly not something that you should be embarrassed about or ashamed of, as most people know how you feel. The good news is that we’re here to help. In this article, we’re going to be taking a look at some of the things that you should be doing when it comes to managing your money as best you can, so if you would like to find out more, continue reading.

All The Essentials

Managing Money

The first thing that you’re going to need to do is look at sorting out all of the essentials. This means that before you do anything else, you need to make sure that your rent/mortgage is paid, that your water, electricity and gas are paid, that your council tax is paid, and any other priority bills that you have.

Once you’ve done that, you then need to make sure that you have enough money to buy food for the week, and then once you’ve done that, then you can start working out what else you can do. For example if you have other bills like a phone bill, credit card bills etc then they need to come after all of this, even though we know it’s hard to think of it this way.

Savings For Unexpected Expenses

When you’re trying to stretch your money as far as you possibly can, this often does not include any money for savings. However, you should try your best to put some money away for savings, just so that you have this little security blanket for if things ever do go wrong – not that they are going to.

Sadly, life has a way of bringing the expensive things into our life when we don’t have the money to pay for them, and savings really help with the stress of this. For example, you might need to purchase something like impound insurance if your car gets impounded, or something in your home might break that needs to be replaced.

Budgeting Is Your Friend

Finally, the best piece of advice that we can give you is to create a budget and then stick to it. We know that this can be tough, but it’s the best way to ensure that everything that needs to get paid, gets paid, and ensures that you know where your money is going each month.

As your finances change, you need to update this budget, otherwise you’re going to have an inaccurate list of bills and income, which is just pointless.

We hope that you have found this article helpful, and now see some of the things that you should be doing in order to manage your money moving forward. We know that it’s hard, but you still need to do it.
