Batman Unmasked: A Unique Exhibition Experience in London

Last weekend, Will, Ollie and I stepped into Gotham City. Ok, that’s a white lie; we were actually in London just off Covent Garden, visiting Batman Unmasked, an immersive exhibition bringing fans face-to-face with the Dark Knight’s legacy. The event celebrates the 85th anniversary of DC’s most iconic superhero, Batman, with an impressive collection of original props, costumes, and exclusive memorabilia. Perfect for fans of all ages, we were in our element. Will is the biggest DC geek, and I’m sure he won’t mind me saying so!! I love all things DC and Marvel, and Ollie is my partner-in-crime watching them all. This exhibition invites you to uncover the world of Gotham through themed rooms and interactive displays.

At the Batman Unmasked exhibition in London, fans are treated to a journey through Gotham’s most memorable moments. Navigating a series of themed rooms, you’ll find yourself surrounded by the sights and sounds of the Caped Crusader’s adventures. The Batman Unmasked exhibition boasts a vast collection of original props used in the Batman films, making it a must-see for any Batman fan. Highlights include iconic gadgets and weapons, costumes from every era, and the Batsuits worn in some of the Batman films. Whether it’s Heath Ledger’s nurse costume, Margo Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Uma Thurman’s Poison Ivy outfit, or Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Mr. Freeze suit, these never-before-seen items bring each villain to life in stunning detail. Our favourite was Tom Hardy’s Bane mask, which we all agreed we would LOVE to recreate on a 3D printer!

Each themed room at Batman Unmasked immerses visitors in scenes from the films, from the world of Gotham City to the Batcave itself. Fans of all things Batman will be thrilled to see Jim Carrey’s Riddler costume alongside props and weapons featured throughout the films. Don’t miss the beast that is Robert Pattinson’s Batmobile, which fans can view up close. There are also exclusive professional photo opportunities available for fun green screen moments, so you can capture every moment.

The villains’ room was hands-down our favourite room; there was so much to take in, so much detail, and so many memories of moments in the films.

As part of the 85th anniversary of DC’s Dark Knight, Batman Unmasked in London offers a range of special 85th-anniversary items in its on-site retail store. You’ll find unique memorabilia and exclusive merchandise perfect for Batman fans. Each item is a final memento to remember the unforgettable journey into the Caped Crusader’s world. I was especially impressed by the child’s bundle – £40 for a plushie, t-shirt, stickers and notebook.

This immersive experience is perfect for fans, young and old. The Arkham Room may appear scary initially for younger children, but it can be bypassed easily. There’s something for everyone to enjoy—from gaming areas to intricate comic book displays. The Batman Unmasked exhibition provides a free-flow experience, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace and take in the extensive range of props and costumes from 1989 to 2022. The full experience took us around 70 minutes, but we decided to go back to the beginning and do it all again, so we spent over 2 hours there.

NB: Unfortunately, on the day we visited, only one of the cars was working on the Scalextric track, and neither of the gaming consoles worked. I have spoken to people since they have visited, and all of them have been working fine.
