Last month, my daughter Lillie and I enjoyed a delightful stay at 18 Bucklands in North Devon to celebrate the end of her GCSEs and the beginning of her Summer. Our self-check-in was seamless, thanks to prior communication with the owner. This made our arrival quick and stress-free.
First Impressions
The chalet immediately impressed us with its modern yet welcoming decor. Every detail, from the seating areas to the lighting, pet boxes, treat and hygiene jars and the coffee machine, showed thoughtful consideration. It felt like a perfect blend of luxury and homey comfort. It took us no time at all to settle in and relax at the start of our girls’ trip.
Culinary Adventures
We opted to cook all our meals in the chalet. When I say “we,” I mean Lillie cooked for me, allowing me to catch up on some work in the evenings. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed, and the dishwasher was a lifesaver, sparing us from washing up after meals which meant we could settle down each evening as soon as mealtime was over.
Exploring and Nostalgia
Lillie and I took a nostalgic walk around Parkdean Bideford Bay Holiday Park, where I shared memories of a stay with her older brother William when he was five. Our explorations took us to Westward Ho!, Appledore and Instow Beach. We also visited our family favourites of Tunnels Beach Ilfracombe, Hele Bay, and Combe Martin, all offering unique and beautiful experiences and lots of seaglass!!
Evening Relaxation
Evenings were a time for relaxation and bonding. We watched movies on Netflix, indulged in chocolate, and shared lots of laughter. With individual TVs in our bedrooms, we also enjoyed some personal time to read and watch our own shows before sleep came calling.
Day Trips and Recommendations
Our day at Westward Ho! was particularly memorable, as we had only visited briefly before one evening. At the time we hadn’t appreciated just how great the beach was since we have generally favoured Woolacombe. Having now visited Westward Ho in the daytime we will definitely be taking the boys back this Summer. 18 Bucklands’ proximity to Clovelly was a bonus, and I highly recommend a visit there. From past experiences, a walk to Clovelly from Bideford Bay Holiday Park offers a charming day out.
Final Thoughts
Our stay at 18 Bucklands was a perfect mix of relaxation, exploration, and quality time together, which we will remember forever – a special time for Mother and Daughter bonding. The thoughtful amenities, beautiful surroundings, and nearby attractions make it an ideal destination for anyone looking to unwind and enjoy North Devon. We can’t wait to return and create more memories.
