family cars to lease

A growing family places greater demands on our vehicles, and as we grow, we need our cars to evolve with us.

The number of seats and boot space are at the forefront of any great car search, particularly when you need space for an extra car seat or travel system.

However, one of the most crucial aspects parents have to consider when looking for a new car lease, is how safe the vehicle is.

Every new car is put through rigorous safety tests to determine its Euro NCAP safety score. It’s a score marked out of five stars; the higher the star, the higher the perceived safety of the vehicle.

The stars are also broken down into four categories, with a percentage score dished out in the following categories: Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Vulnerable Road Users and Safety Assist.

If you’re looking to upsize your family vehicle, take the time to research any shortlist model’s Euro NCAP safety score.

We’ve highlighted some of the best family cars that offer safety, practicality and space for every budget.

Affordable – MG ZS EV

For any family trying to live a little greener, you could consider the MG ZS EV.

MG are establishing themselves as one of the more affordable electric car manufacturers without compromising on quality.

The ZS EV and the MG4 are two of the most popular electric cars on the road today, and for good reason.

With a claimed range of up to 273 miles, a spacious cabin and practical boot space, it is all the car you’ll ever need as a bustling family.

Combined with the five-star Euro NCAP safety score, which includes 90% and 85% scores for adult and child occupants, respectively, it makes switching to an electric car a no-brainer for any family.

Mid-range – Skoda Octavia

If you look up value for money in the dictionary, you’ll probably see a picture of the Skoda Octavia.

For those who may not want or need an SUV, the estate variant of the Skoda Octavia is among the very best in this segment.

It combines excellent reliability and efficiency with a supreme amount of boot space. With tonnes of interior space for adults and children alike, the Octavia is a car that can grow with your family, so you don’t have to worry about having to replace it in a few years. It backs all this up with five stars in its Euro NCAP tests, too.

Premium – Tesla Model Y

Family cars don’t come much more spacious than the Tesla Model Y, which boasts quite a ridiculous amount of boot space.

Built as a seven-seater SUV in other markets, the Model Y is currently only available in the UK as a five-seater. As a result of the vacant space, you’re left with an astonishing 854L of boot space.

This makes the Model Y a class leader in the electric SUV class, with unrivalled space.

However, it also combines this with exceptional safety scores. It scored five stars during its Euro NCAP safety tests, with a 97% score for adult occupants and 87% for child occupants.

Luxurious – Volvo XC90

Volvo XC90

It is the biggest SUV in the Volvo lineup currently and has the biggest price tag of the vehicles we’re looking at today.

Volvo may not be the first name that springs to mind when you think of luxury, but once you step foot inside the XC90, it’ll be hard to look back.

Seven-seaters don’t have to be practical workhorses; they can still add a hint of lavishness.

Built with the finest high-quality materials and innovative technology features, it is a commanding SUV that will handle the hustle and bustle of a busy lifestyle while still providing a pristine and refined driving experience.

During its most recently published testing data, the XC90 scored five stars and a hugely impressive 97% score for adult occupants, making it one of the safest SUVs you can drive.
