The Gallery: Week 16 – Creatures

Nov 2009 547

For this weeks entry to The Gallery, the theme for which is “Creatures” I decided to share a couple of the hundred or so photos which I took of these rather gorgeous seals who were born in November 2009. At the time the pictures were taken they were about 2 weeks old.  The seals, which I believe are a colony of grey seals, come ashore at Donna Nook near Mablethorpe in Lincolnshire at the same time every year to have their pups.

image As you can see in this picture, there are hundreds of them and it is a really magical site to see, especially if you take your children.  There is a picket fence which keeps you separate from the seals and their pups, both for your safety and theirs but it doesn’t get much more natural than this.  They have Marshalls to ensure that everyone keeps to their side of the fence and to patrol the car parks which get VERY very busy but if you get the opportunity you really should pay a visit this winter.  I promise you will not be disappointed!!

What’s really nice is just how close you can get to them. The babies are just so fluffy initially, they do look like the teddies in the shops!
