Take part in the Holiday Health Experiment!

So, who wants to hear about a project between Kuoni and Nuffield Health called the Holiday Health Experiment, which is largely aimed at stressed parents.

The aim of the experiment is to better understand the health impact of a holiday on the body and mind. As part of this research, Kuoni wants to hear about how much people in the UK need a holiday and why. Kuoni will then select 3 successful entrants and their travelling companions to be given a free personal health assessment and a free luxury holiday. It would be fantastic if one of these entrants was a stressed parent, so they could see the impact of a holiday on their health.

There are three holiday types to be awarded to successful entrants including:

  • a luxurious beach holiday
  • an adventurous volunteering holiday
  • and an exotic far flung holiday

To kick off the Holiday Health Experiment, Kuoni has looked at conversations on Twitter to see how many people in the UK are already expressing the need to go on holiday. Overall, people in the UK tweeted about wanting or needing a holiday over 70,000 times across the year!

Chris Jones, Professional Head of Physiology at Nuffield Health says:

“On a day-to-day basis, our bodies give us many often subtle physical signals for stress or tiredness that may be caused by our busy modern lives and we all intuitively know that a holiday can help us re-charge our batteries.
“This small, exciting case study experiment will give us an interesting insight into how different types of holidays may impact on a person’s general health and wellbeing. I am looking forward to analysing the data from this unique experiment which will hopefully focus people’s minds on the importance of managing everyday stress and worries – perhaps from work, and ensure time is built into their busy lives to improve their wellbeing.”

Our 2009/10 research showed us that 54% of the public take major life-changing decisions and act on them after a holiday. There is something about getting away from everyday life that helps us all think in a different way about our lives. We also know how refreshed people can look and feel after even a short break. We now want to tap into science to pick this apart and understand the mental and physiological changes we go through when away from the stresses of our everyday life.     Well my holiday isn’t until October, so when everyones flying of to far flung places I’ll be “grrr mines ages away yet!” But come October when everyones getting their winter wollies out – not that we’ve put them away as yet – I’ll be packing my case & jetting off on our Pearl Anniversary Cruise, with an extra two nights in the fabulous city of Barcelona.
    Hopefully it will be very restfull after a busy 2012.
    So far had our anniversay on the 30th April, nephews wedding 19th May, visiting daughter & grandson in Newcastle for a few days mid June,Mothers 81st birthday 14th July – organinsing a family meal …. for 60!! Grand-daughter Olivia due to put in an appearance around the 20th August (please don’t be late Olivia!) 24th eldest son getting married, hence wanting Olivia to arrive on time. Back over to Newcastle to celebrate grandsons second birthday. Over to Wales to celebrate grand-daughter Phoebe’s first birthday.
    That list doesn’t included my wanting to celebrate with our Queen as she celebrates 60 years service to us & the Olympics & Paralympics in which I have friends that will be representing our nation.
    So come Ocotober I’ll be ready to get away from it all for two weeks before starting the Christmas build up – heck I’ve already started that too.
    Would love the to see how I affects the above study LOL.
