Storage solutions for a small bedroom PLUS Tidy Books Giveaway!!!

Unless you build your house yourself I think it’s pretty impossible to find a house which will have bedrooms of equal proportions so that each child gets exactly the same space. When we moved into our ‘new build’ house nearly four years ago the decision was quite simple, the two larger bedrooms would go to Curly and Little Bean, although since Curly is only here on a part-time basis he got the smaller of the two large bedrooms as he has less clothing and need for storage, the small bedroom would become the nursery for Beanie Boy who was born just two weeks after we moved in and everyone was happy. Then we put a spanner in the works by expanding our family just a little more with the welcome addition of Jelly Bean. In a four bedroom house with four children, that meant that someone was going to have to share, namely; Beanie Boy and Jelly Bean. Storage

After a spot of room shuffling it meant that Curly was now going to have the small bedroom which wasn’t an easy decision to make but it was the only one which would work. Planning and organisation was to be the key to getting his room right and thankfully I think we have achieved it with clever storage solutions. Over his 12 (nearly 13 years) Curly has managed to accumulate a LOT of books and toys; puzzles, figures, LEGO, computer games which all take up space. Curly is quite protective of his stuff and doesn’t like his younger siblings to play with it when he isn’t here so we keep it all shut away in his bedroom. (Curly is 6 years older than Little Bean and so the younger siblings haven’t always taken care of his stuff as well as he would have liked). We bought Curly this large Expedit unit from Ikea as well as a large set of the Malm drawers for him to store his clothes in. Ikea is the perfect place for storage options as they have so many functional pieces of furniture which look great and don’t cost the Earth. I bought the blue storage boxes from Dunelms at just £2.99 a box and they are great for keeping all of his figures and ‘stuff’ in without it all spilling out onto the floor. The key to keeping a small bedroom looking tidy is by getting things up of the floor as it’s the floor space which can make a room appear larger and more spacious.

Bedroom 2-001

We have wall-mounted his TV and Stereo at the end of his bed which he thinks is wicked as he feels like he has his own little ‘pad’ up there and the latest addition is the Tidy Box Bunk Buddy which is the perfect place for him to store his mobile phone, alarm clock, current reading book, remote control, headphones, games console and glass of water so that they are all within easy reach of his bed (we all know how ‘tweens can be a little lazy and not want to move too far from their pits). Hubby said that it was really easy to pop it on the wall and it fits very securely. Each shelf has a lip at the front of it so that nothing is likely to roll or slide off the shelves. You could easily personalise the Bunk Buddy with stickers as I did with Little Bean’s bookshelf but apparently Curly is ‘too old’ for stickers but he loves it nonetheless!! Finally under the bed we have just bought some cheap plastic under bed storage boxes. I think we bought these ones from Aldi at just £6.99 for three boxes and this is where he keeps all of his LEGO so that it’s out of site of chubby little fingers!!! I have one Tidy Books Bunk Buddy to give away to one lucky Mummy Matters reader. Just complete the Rafflecopter Entry Form below for your chance to win it.

  1. I think their Tidy Books ForgetMeNot family organisers are fab, especially for busy mum’s like me who have four young children and lots of events, parties, clubs, birthdays, etc to remember!

  2. The family organiser and notice board because it might help us keep organised and all school letters together and knowing what is happening when

  3. I like all of their products but I love the forgetmenot, as my son is at nursery it would come in handy so we dont forget anything 🙂 x
Thank you for hosting this giveaway xx

  4. i like the Tidy Books Kids book box as it can easily be moved around, the kids can carry their things out to the garden and easily put them back in the box and take them to their room when finished

  5. I love the bunk bed storage as it so difficult finding shelving that’s suitable for use near a bunk bed. I have a bit of a thing for Tidy Books at the moment as I’m building a reading corner for my little girl 🙂
