Most of the products I receive to review I get quite excited about but the review product I hoped I would never have to use came in the form of Lyclear head lice treatment. I must admit as the end of the school year drew to a close at the start of the summer I felt quite smug in the knowledge that Little Bean had made it through her first school year without catching head lice. Perhaps that was down to the fact that I always used Vosene Kids haircare range with Head Lice Prevention, over the summer holidays I became a little lapse and began using other products in my bathroom. I simply forgot about head lice until one evening as we sat around the tea table and Little Bean began scratching her head before uttering those words “Mummy I think I have got the head lice . . .” I swear I saw a tumbleweed roll across the kitchen as Hubby and I froze in time and looked at each other. A quick check behind her ears and at the nape of her neck confirmed her self-diagnosis, she had head lice. Cue frantic scratching from Mummy and Daddy too, I bet you’re scratching as you read this, I know I am and I know that our house is head lice free, it’s just one of those things that makes you itch at the mere mention of the little cretins.
I had been sent the Lyclear range just a few weeks earlier as part of a back to school campaign and remember saying at the time that I would be happy to keep it in my bathroom cupboard until such a time as we needed it and would review it then, little did I know that the opportunity would present itself so soon.
As soon as teatime was over we whipped Little Bean upstairs and treated her hair with the Lyclear Shampoo on DRY hair. You rub it all over the hair from root to tip, giving particular attention behind the ears and at the nape of the neck. The shampoo was then left on for 10 minutes to work its magic before being rinsed off thoroughly. Each box of Lyclear contains a head lice comb which is used following the treatment to comb through the hair to remove the dead head lice and their eggs. 7 days later we repeated the treatment as instructed on the box.
Speaking to friends who have children they said the best thing to do is to treat the whole family just to be on the safe side as there was a high possibility that we could have head lice too. For Hubby and the boys we used the Lyclear spray since they all have short hair and this was a really easy way to apply it to their hair. With the spray you need to apply to dry hair, massaging it from root to tips and leaving it on for 15 minutes before rinsing off thoroughly and then combing through the hair with the head lice comb.
I used the Lyclear Sensitive because it said that it was a non-greasy lotion and I didn’t like the idea of walking around with greasy hair for the next few days. It was easy to apply (rather like a bottle of hair dye) and had to be left on overnight. In the morning I rubbed my normal shampoo into my hair before getting into the shower and washing it all off. As with everyone else I needed to comb through my hair with the head lice comb to remove any dead head lice and eggs. I am pleased to say that the rest of the family were clear of head lice and (*touches wood) Little Bean has been free of head lice ever since, needless to say we have reverted back to using the Vosene Kids hair care range just to be on the safe side because we really don’t want them back in the house again!!
Lyclear is 100% effective in the treatment of head lice, it’s unique double action formula suffocates and dehydrates the head lice and their eggs. The solutions have been clinically tested and are free from insecticides and act in a purely physical manner which ensures the head lice do not become resistant to the treatment.
