Today we are two days into full-on potty training with Little Bean. We dabbled with it on Friday and she did really well but yesterday was the first day that she went completely nappy free for her waking hours (she is wearing a nappy for naptimes and bedtime). My initial plan was to stay at home for the full two-week break from ‘little’ school but then I thought about it some more and decided that we would still go about life as normal-ish as possible. So when Karin (Cafebebe) asked if would like to meet them at the park and go to the Supermarket, I was nervous but I thought, why not? Little Bean had managed to do all of her wees on the potty throughout the morning and had even managed a pooh. All of which were without my prompting, I’ve tried to be very relaxed with her and just make sure that she knows where the potty is at all times. Each time she does a wee she claps her hands or gives me a ‘high five’ and I whoop and cheer, sometimes I give her a chocolate button but I’ve decided not to do it every time as I found that she was just doing lots of little wees instead of a full wee each time.
Before heading to the park I asked her to sit on the potty and do a wee for me, which she happily did. To be on the safe side I put a disposable changing mat in her car seat and she put on a pair of these Potty Training Pants which we were sent by Baba & Boo. I wasn’t sure what to expect from them as I hadn’t heard of anyone using them before. They are made from really soft cotton with elasticated waist and legs. The gusset area has a three layer system with a terry gusset lining and a waterproof lining underneath. They absorb the wee if they have an accident, whilst protecting the outer clothing from getting wet but the child will still feel wet so they will know when they have had an accident.
When we arrived at the park, I have to admit I totally forgot to ask her if she needed a wee again and so I let her run off to have some fun. I did ask her repeatedly if she needed to go for a wee (because I had taken the My Carry Potty with me) and she kept telling me no, tinged with a sigh of ‘leave me alone Mummy’. After about 45 minutes of playtime, she was still telling me that she didn’t need to go and so we headed back to the car ready to go to the supermarket. I asked Little Bean if she would do a wee on the potty for me and she said that she would try but as I bent to help her sit on the potty I realised that her Potty Training Pants were wet, they had certainly done their job because her outer clothes were bone dry. A quick change of pants and we were off to the supermarket.
Thankfully we made it around the supermarket with no accidents and she did a quick wee on the potty before we got into the car to go home. Once at home she settled back into her potty training uniform (t-shirt and pants, she wants to be a ‘rudie’ but I’ve convinced her that a t-shirt and pants would be better!). Throughout the remainder of the day she only had two more accidents which both happened when she was sat at the table eating her dinner and then her tea.
Today, we have been over to Karin’s house and to the park there. She only had one little accident all day where she forgot to pull her pants down when she sat on the potty. I am soooo proud of my Little Bean, I know this is only the beginning and there will probably be many accidents to come but I think she has a great attitude towards it all. She has made a fantastic start and I love her even more for it xx
