Mediflow Waterbase Pillow

Long gone are the days when we could just go out and buy any old cheap pillow and be comfortable in bed. Sadly, as Hubby and I are preparing to say goodbye thirty-somethings, hello naughty forties, our bodies it would appear aren’t quite what they used to be. We have both been in a number of minor car accidents and have spent many hours at the gym or playing sports where we have attained injuries. Carrying three babies over a period of 27 months and growing children thereafter certainly hasn’t helped either. Now we both suffer with neck and back pain and have spent silly amounts of money in a bid to find ‘the right pillow’. I have to hold my hands up and say that I am very happy with the pillow which I have been using for the past year or so but Hubby has still woken every morning complaining of lower back pain.

Mediflow Waterbase Pillow

Recently we were sent the Mediflow Waterbase Pillow to try. Initially we were sceptical but if you don’t try these things you will never know what you are/aren’t missing out on so he agreed to give it a whirl.

Mediflow Waterbase Pillow

What they say . . .

The Mediflow® Waterbase® water pillow has been ranked the top bed pillow over all others for improving the quality of your sleep. This state-of-the-art therapeutic pillow has been clinically tested, and it was proven to be the best neck support pillow to reduce neck pain!

This innovative sleep pillow has been clinically shown to improve the quality of your sleep.

The Mediflow® Waterbase® pillow has a soft, hypoallergenic fiber filling supported by an easy-to-fill water pouch.

By simply adding water, you can adjust the support level of this better sleep pillow and find the setting that’s right for you. Whether you prefer soft, medium or firm comfort, the Mediflow® Waterbase® can be customized to fit your needs.

First impressions . . .

When the pillow arrived it was well packaged and came with clear instructions on how to set the pillow up. The feel of the fabric is very soft and luxurious so there were no worries there but what about filling it up? The base of the pillow has a cap which can be unscrewed by using the funnel as a key. Once the cap has been removed you stand the pillow up on it’s end to rest against the back of a chair and using the funnel fill up the waterbase according to your desired level of firmness. The instructions suggest starting with the middle open and then either adding to or removing water for personal preference. Once we had added the water you needed to gently feel for the top level of the water and press the pillow to express any air left in the water chamber before sealing with the cap. Hubby likes a nice firm pillow so he found that he needed to fill it up to the maximum to get the desired level of comfort. Once the Mediflow Waterbase Pillow had been filled with water it weighed a tonne so I don’t think we will be having pillow fights any time soon or I shall end up with a black eye!!

Mediflow Instructions

First night . . .

Hubby said that initially he was aware of the sound of the water moving in the pillow when he moved but once he had got himself comfortable he drifted off with ease and didn’t give the waterbase a second thought. He worried how he would feel as he was used to sleeping on two pillows so going down to one felt strange and he would often turn his pillow in the night to get the cool side but he wouldn’t be able to do this with the Mediflow. In the morning he woke up surprised that he didn’t have lower back pain. He said that once or twice in the night he had turned onto his tummy and slid his hands under the pillow scraping his knuckles on the cap. Only time would tell . . .

Two weeks on . . .

Hubby has continued to use the pillow for the past two weeks and has definitely noticed a difference in his sleep. Prior to using the Mediflow Waterbase Pillow he would wake often in the night to turn over from front to back, side to side, hands by his side, hands under the pillow but since using the Mediflow he isn’t waking in the night and often wakes up in the same position he fell asleep and he isn’t suffering with lower back pain.

Testament to that is that I used to wake often in the night too because he was always jiffling and moving around but I too am sleeping better because he is sleeping better so it’s a good night all round for both of us.
