Kenco, Michaela Strachan and Glass Animals?

image Would I like to interview Michaela Strachan? That was a question I was asked last week!! Really? Me? I used to watch Michaela Strachan when I was a child and now you want me to ask her some questions?

Kenco, Michaela and Chris

Kenco have recently launched a new-look coffee jar which uses 7% less glass and will save 900 tonnes of glass per year. To celebrate the launch Kenco partnered up with Michaela Strachan and Chris Packham to award four communities in the UK their very own giant animal made from recycled glass. The sculptures will serve as a reminder of the importance of reducing waste.

On Thursday 27th October Michaela and Chris presented Ouseburn Farm in Newcastle with a stunning pair of Giraffes because Kenco’s expert panel felt that the regeneration of the area together with regular children’s visits and the wide open space were second to none and would provide the perfect backdrop for Connie & Stan.

Chris Packham said

“I was really impressed with the volume and quality of entries from across the UK and was delighted to present the Farm their prize. I hope the local community will come along to see these beautiful creatures strutting their stuff in their new home!”

Michaela agreed

“I loved being involved in the search for a new home for the giraffes. I’m sure the stunning sculptures will be a great addition to the community – many of whom I enjoyed meeting at the prize giving!”.

It’s funny how quickly your brain goes to mush and you totally lose the ability to string a sentence together isn’t it so I apologise in advance for my not-so-intelligent questions but this was my first ever interview . . .

1. What is the campaign you and Chris Packham are doing for Kenco at the moment and what made you want to get involved?

MICHAELA: When Chris and I were asked to join this celebratory event we jumped at the chance, not only due to our love of animals – be it glass or real – but also because we’re both passionate about rewarding deserving communities.

2. What steps have you taken to make the world a ‘greener’ place?

MICHAELA: I have recycled for years; I grow my own food – vegetables. I plant trees, work in the media to get green messages out there, NEVER use a plastic bag and mend and repair clothes etc. rather than throw them away.

3. If you had the opportunity to create a glass sculpture yourself, what would you create and why?

MICHAELA: An orangutan because it would look fantastic

4. What would you recommend is the best first pet for a family with young children and why?

MICHAELA: If people have the means to look after it, then a dog because you can give a lot and get a lot back. They are great for kids to learn how to look after a pet.

5. I need a cup of coffee to wake me up in the morning, what are your tips for getting the day off to a good start?

MICHAELA: A cup of Kenco coffee, of course, and a smile.
