Jamie at Home DVD Series–Review and Giveaway!!
Firstly, apologies to everyone because I meant to write this post on Friday but life has been hectic so it got pushed back until today.
The Sun Newspaper are running a promotion from 5th to 11th February where each day you can collect a token to receive a free DVD from the Jamie at Home series. Each DVD (6 in total) features two episodes building up the entire series. The tokens are instantly redeemable at Tesco on the day of print. On Saturday (yesterday) and Sunday the tokens can be found in the Sun Buzz magazine, then featured in the paper for the rest of the week.
I have one set of the DVD’s to giveaway to one of my lucky readers – for details on how to enter please see the rules at the bottom of this post.
With thanks to the Sun and Buzz Magazine (www.twitter.com/TheSun_Buzz) I have had the opportunity to view the entire series before their release. People who know me well will know that the kitchen is not my favourite place in the house, I call myself ‘Can Cook, Won’t Cook’ because I just don’t generally find pleasure in cooking. I have a fabulous husband who loves cooking and so this is usually his domain. However, since becoming a stay-at-home Mummy I feel I need to take a more active interest in cooking family meals, and I want to – that is something I never thought I would hear myself say.
This is where I really contradict myself, I don’t enjoy cooking but I’ve had an obsession with Jamie Oliver cookbooks since his very first one – I own them all. Every now and then I will dust one off and cook a meal from it and its always been a success. What I like about Jamie Oliver is his no fuss approach to cooking. As I sit here now typing this post I am watching Jamie making a scrummy traditional Apple Pie. He makes me believe that I can do it because he makes it look so easy. My only criticism of Jamie is how messy he is in his cooking, I really wouldn’t like to clean up after him!! The DVD’s are a great idea, particularly if you are fortunate enough to have a TV/DVD player in your kitchen because you can cook along with him.

Our family favourite is shepherds/cottage pie.
Lots of cheesy mash on top, some hidden veg inside, and served with baked beans!

I am notable to obtain the Sun DVD number 2 I managed to obtain number 1. I went to 2 Tesco stores and the person at the till laughed when I asked him. The other store from which I managed to obtain the first one, did not have the second DVD. Please help me and tell me how to obtain the second DVD or maybe I am lucky and win. I have to lose weight and that is why I am very keen to obtain the DVD number 2 as I believe it is for ‘soup’
Thank you.

I have yet to try cooking with a slow cooker, but I think it sounds like my sort of thing, don’t you just stick in the food and leave it? When you say biscuits, do you mean digestives type of biscuits?

My favourite family meal has to be slow cooked lamb shanks with red wine – if there is any left after I’ve tasted it – with shallots, carrots, canneloni beans, all in a glorious meaty stew-like juice. Scrummy!

Good old beef stew (although I prefer minus the dumplings and substitute with more potatoes) – can’t beat it on a cold winter’s day!
