I love crafts, always have done and I love to learn something new. With each of my babies, I have felt the need to ‘make’ something just for them, from me. With Little Bean and Beanie Boy, I made cross-stitch birth sampler pictures to go on their nursery walls and I fully intend to make one for Jelly Bean too. But I’ve had an itching desire over the last few months to learn how to crochet but to be honest I just didn’t ‘get’ it. I have done French knitting, I have done normal knitting but I just couldn’t understand how you can basically knit with only one needle.
A Gift for Jelly Bean
Everywhere I look at the minute I see cute babies and toddlers in gorgeous crocheted hats or snuggled up in crocheted blankets and don’t even get me started on some of the most gorgeous newborn pictures of babies cocooned inside a hat, I REALLY need to try to get some of those kinds of shots with Jelly Bean or my chance will be gone forever. But I digress!!! Working in a craft shop at a weekend things catch my eye, sometimes it can be quite dangerous for the purse strings as I spot new ideas that I want to try out.
This weekend on a whim I saw Samantha and mentioned that I was keen to learn how to crochet and asked if it was easy enough to learn etc. Within 10 minutes Samantha had shown me how to get started. I came home that evening with 3 balls of wool in colours to complement my gorgeous purple Stokke Xplory Evo and here I am just two days later with the beginnings of a blanket which I have to say I am feeling quite proud of.
I made that!
It’s not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, I can see the odd mistake in it here and there but someone once told me that the true tale of something handmade is the odd little glitch and I have stood by that. I’m just looking forward to the day that I can snuggle Jelly Bean up on a cold Winter or Spring morning in his crocheted blanket and think, “I made that”.

it’s addictive you know <> and have you looked at the Attic24 blog? I wouldn’t if I were you. You sit down with a cuppa to ‘just have a quick look’ and several hours later you emerge. Lucy who writes it is a darling and her patterns are so inspirational 🙂
