Why the internet is this ‘Mum’s best friend’

For modern Mums like myself, the internet is a necessity. I use the internet EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. I use it to check my emails, to manage the family diary, pay bills and even to do my grocery shop. I check up on symptoms when one of us is poorly in the middle of the night (although I only use the NHS website), heck now I can even book Doctor’s appointments online too (no more snotty receptionists for me – no thank you!).

Internet

I use the internet for inspiration when I want to try something new with the children, be it recipes, crafts or days out – it’s all on there. A whole world of information right there at your fingertips. When I need advice on how to complete a project I turn to Youtube because there are so many great instructional videos on there. I learnt a new crochet stitch watching a video on Youtube, I have taught myself how to do various editing techniques for my blog by watching videos and who knows, maybe one day I will teach myself to ‘twerk’ too!!

Hands down though, the majority of my time spent on the internet (other than my blog) would have to be on social media. Through social media I have reconnected with friends from my past, old school friends, family and work colleagues. I have made hundreds of new friends via the blogging network and have connected with the Mum’s from Little Bean’s school. We use social media to organise events, send out reminders of things we need to take to school or in my case, to remember which day I am supposed to take Little Bean to school after a school holiday (I always try to keep her for an extra day).

Being a busy Mum I don’t always have the time to get together with my friends as much as I would like but by the power of the internet I am able to swap messages and photographs to keep the conversation going until we can meet again. During the wee small hours when I was up breastfeeding by babies, I could always find someone else to talk to who was also feeding, up with a sick child or simply couldn’t sleep. It was a way of keeping me awake until I was able to climb back into my bed.

Of course with mobile technology it is even easier for us to stay connected, my mobile phone goes EVERYWHERE with me. It is my lifeline until the next time that I can sit down to my laptop. Smartphones are just so flipping smart that sometimes you don’t even need to switch on your laptop. If that’s how good things are for us now, I can’t even begin to imagine what technology will do when my children are parents themselves, can you?

  1. I have to agree. I would be lost without the Internet! I have made so many new friends that I talk to everyday on social media. Makes me wonder how we ever coped without it!
