Furniture Styles That Make Your Whole House Look More Expensive

It’s a sad fact of life that not all of us are destined to live in the Palace of Versailles, with its beautiful ornaments and opulent decor. But that doesn’t mean that there’s nothing we can do in our own homes to make them look a little more palatial.

It turns out that creating a sense of luxury in your home isn’t as difficult or as expensive as you might imagine. In fact, achieving an opulent look can actually be quite cheap, so long as you know what you’re doing. Here are some tricks you can try using furniture that will make your whole house look and feel more expensive.

Add Extra Trim

One of the ways that designers make furniture look more expensive than it is is by adding trim, according to Emily Peacock, a manager at the showroom Samuel and Sons. She says that all people need to do is go to their local furniture tailor and get them to add braiding and skirting to their upholstery. A simple, plain sofa can be instantly transformed with beautiful braided skirting and fluffy, patterned cushions.

Peacock also recommends that people opt for regal colors when choosing furniture. Colors like emerald, turquoise, and purple are much better than lime green and blue.

Mirror, Mirror On The Wall

Recently, the Huffington Post made a case for everybody to start using more mirrors in their homes. Mirrors, they said, helped to open up space and create depth in rooms. Mirrors are also perfect for people who want to enhance the natural light entering their rooms since mirrors will reflect any natural light into the room.

Soho at Heal’s Brunel is currently offering a self-standing mirror for furniture delivery. It’s a good example of the type of mirror you should choose, thanks to its sloping, arched design, and the fact that you don’t have to drill any holes in the wall.

Getting that luxury feel in your home doesn’t just have to involve the “fixtures.” You can also help your home look more like the Palace of Versailles using fittings too. One idea is to replace all your door handles with stunning door knobs with crystal elements and flowery designs. Knobs constructed of glass and metal tend to look very good indeed.

Go Dark

Many people think that they have to choose light and airy colors to make a room look bigger. But the truth is that darker colors can open a room up too and make it look more luxurious. You don’t have to paper an entire room in dark wallpaper to create a feeling of luxury. Instead, use an expensive, patterned dark wallpaper on one wall and then pair it will a few pieces of vintage furniture.

Opulent spaces can often feel a little severe, especially if you’ve gone all out. An excellent way to balance out an opulent space is to include a slice of nature. Add plants to your interior spaces and use beautiful vases to hold them.
