Book Advent with Twenty Four Days to Christmas

Last year as the countdown to Christmas began I saw Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest flooded with alternative Advent ideas. One such Advent which stood out for me was the Book Advent because the Beans LOVE Books and I saw it as an opportunity for a daily Christmas Activity which would bring the family together.

Twenty Four Days to Christmas

As Christmas approached and the Christmas books started to fill up the shelves I collected festive books wherever I found them at a reasonable price, The Works was a great place for this with offers like 4 books for £5. I found books in mint condition in charity shops, books that I had bought last year and had forgotten about and finally a lovely book we were sent to review; Twenty Four Days to Christmas.

Written by Fred Arthur and illustrated by Paul Winward, Twenty Four Days to Christmas is the story of Poppy who doesn’t know how she will contain her excitement and impatience for Twenty Four whole days. Poppy’s parents devise a cunning plan to keep Poppy’s mind occupied in the run up to Christmas. Each day will see them enjoying a different Christmas themed activity.

Twenty Four Days to Christmas is more than just a story, it’s a parent’s handbook of how to keep your little ones entertained in the run up to Christmas, read one day at a time or read the whole story in one go. Pick out your favourite activities and get festive.

We have really enjoyed our book advent this year, all the books were wrapped and placed under the tree on the first day of December with a letter to the Beans from Mummy and Daddy telling them that each evening they would take it in turns to open a book and as a family we would sit together and read the festive book at bedtime. It’s a lovely way to close the day with the Beans and the festive books fill their minds with magic and happiness before they go to sleep.

What is your favourite Advent book or activity?
