Beauty routine? Oh yes I think I remember . . .

I miss having a beauty routine…

image One of the best pieces of advice that we “seasoned” mums could give to young mothers-in-waiting is to spend plenty of quality time on yourself during your pregnancy. Pamper weekends, manicures, pedicures, waxes, facial skin polishing, massages, and other wonderfully rejuvenating luxuries should be enjoyed to the fullest during the time that you are awaiting your special delivery.

Expectant mothers need to revel in the joyful feeling of putting their needs above all else. The time will soon come when that adorably demanding baby’s needs and wants are placed above all others! Of course, this is as it should be, but there are still those times when a new mother longs for some pampering herself.

Even if you’re not currently pregnant – appreciate your ability to do your hair and makeup in peace (or at all!). It may be hard to imagine now, but there will come a time when foundation, blush, bronzer, and mascara seem like nothing more than a distant memory.

During my firstborn’s early weeks at home, I considered my beauty routine to be fulfilled if I somehow managed to take a brief, yet heavenly hot shower before my husband returned home from work at 6pm and asked me what I had been doing all day. Pregnancy is the perfect time to come up with that cute, easy to maintain hairstyle, because once baby arrives, speed of styling is imperative. During your last trimester, regular pedicures are a special pleasure, since you can no longer comfortably visualize your feet to polish your own toenails. And during that last, long month, when the only shoes that really feel comfortable are your flip-flops, a pedicure is not just a luxury, but a necessity!

image A pedicure with foot massage also provides that much needed boost to your comfort and self-image, at a time when you feel that your feet are simply worn out. Manicures, pedicures, and massages are wonderful aids to your circulation when you are pregnant. However, it is a good idea to consult your Midwife before receiving massages. Beauty routines and rituals give the mother-to-be the relaxation and pampering that she truly deserves.

Stock up on all the beauty and pleasure that you can during your pregnancy – why not head off on a Wahanda spa break? It is a wonderful way to help you to feel pretty and well-groomed during a time in your life when you probably need that feeling of confidence. Enjoy your beauty routines pre-baby!
