A spot of make do and mend with Rust Oleum paint

When we bought our house one of the things that we really loved about it was the large hallway and landing, we liked this spacious area because it made the house feel light and airy. The area at the very top of the stairs had become more of a dumping ground and we all know that once you leave one thing, others soon join it. We also found that our airing cupboard wasn’t the best use of space for storing our bed linen so the decision was made to buy a chest of drawers to go at the top of the stairs as both a focal point and a means of storage for bed linen.

We looked everywhere for the right drawers, we knew we wanted black but we didn’t want them to be plain, yet at the same time not overly ornate. Whilst out browsing a local antiques centre Hubby spotted these drawers which were exactly what we were looking for albeit the wrong colour.

Rust Oleum

A timely email landed asking if I would like to review paints by Rust Oleum and of course, I had exactly the right project to put them to the test (well when I say ‘I’ of course I mean Hubby!!).

When the paint arrived we were surprised to see that they were spray paints but Hubby followed the instructions and sanded down the drawers and got rid of all traces of dirt and loose paint before covering the drawers with light layers of Rust-oleum. In total he did three coats of paint using two cans of paint and we are very happy with the result (although he realised when he had run out of paint that he had failed to finished spraying the front face of one of the back legs).

The paint has given the drawers a professional looking and strong finish to really compliment the drawers and our upstairs landing.
