10 years is a long time. In 10 years, we have moved house twice, we have had three children, changed jobs, created jobs, got fat, got fit, got fat, and steadily got fit again.

10 years is a long time. In 10 years, we have moved house twice, we have had three children, changed jobs, created jobs, got fat, got fit, got fat, and steadily got fit again. During our 10 years together, we have had our ups and downs and somewhere in-between. That’s marriage for you, and we have most certainly had lots of fun and laughter together along the way.

10 years ago I married my best friend . . .

Simon’s ability to make me laugh first attracted me to him (well, that and his bum), he’s a comedian, and we share a very similar sense of humour. We worked together for 18 months before we became a couple, and even then, it felt very odd to go from being friends who talked about our respective dates to actually dating each other.

Working together as a couple might not work for everyone, but for us, it was perfect. We make a perfect team and made each other better in the workplace. We understood when either of us had experienced a bad day and could talk about it when travelling to and from work so that our evening could be spent relaxing and enjoying each other’s company.

10 years ago today, I woke up with a tummy full of butterflies, excited at the prospect of the beginning of our new lives as man and wife. I hadn’t slept well. No matter how hard I tried to sleep, I couldn’t take my eyes off my dress hanging on the wardrobe next to the bed.

It was a beautifully hot Summer’s day, exactly what we had hoped for. It meant that our guests could relax in the courtyard to the sounds of the harpist whilst sipping champagne.

Our Wedding Day really couldn’t have been more perfect. I was talking to a good friend recently who will marry later this year. She commented that it all feels a little surreal, rather like ‘playing’ at getting married. This was exactly how I felt, right up to the moment that I put on my dress in saw myself in the dressing room mirror. Then the tears began. It was really happening. I was about to marry my best friend.

You never know what the future may hold, but I couldn’t have wished for a better first 10 years of marriage and wholly look forward to the next 10! Happy anniversary x831x
