057/366 – A job well done . . .

External Hard Drive Do you have those jobs which really need to be done but for the life of you, you just can’t summons up the enthusiasm to get on with them? I do, I have quite a long list of jobs around the house which I keep sweeping under the carpet but today I finally pulled one out, dusted it off and finished it! The feeling of achievement was brilliant, especially since I could actually ‘see’ how well I had done. You see, 18 months ago Hubby bought me an external hard drive to store all of my photographs and music onto but I didn’t really consider how I was going to use it. Once a month (or whenever I remembered) I would run a back up of my laptop and think nothing more of it. He had bought me 1TB so I had plenty of storage space right? WRONG! Instead of doing an incremental backup each time, I had been doing a full backup and so I was storing the same information over and over again. But I also moved things around on my laptop and deleted stuff so I couldn’t be sure what I had and where I had it. Today I sat for the majority of the day and evening, sorting out folders, deleting duplicates and having a good old sort out of my External Hard-drive AND my laptop. The result was that my laptop is now faster than ever and my Hard-drive is less than 1 quarter full so I’ve got plenty more space to take lots of lovely photographs!! Watch this space . . .
