You and Your Bump by Emma Cannon

I was recently offered the opportunity to review the new book by Emma Cannon titled “You and Your Bump”.  I wondered if I had published a post in my sleep because as far I knew I wasn’t pregnant.  And just for the record, I’m NOT pregnant!  But the point was made that as I had carried two babies and one of them quite recently I could review the book from the perspective of someone who knows what to expect, and of course many of my friends and readers are Mums to be so it is relevant to them.

image You and Your Bump is quite possibly the only book you would need from trying to conceive a baby, through pregnancy, labour and those precious first few weeks with your newborn.  It doesn’t just focus on the physical side of pregnancy but the mental and emotional side too.  Emma Cannon who practices in Chelsea, Harley Street is well known as one of the country’s leading complementary fertility specialists and the huge success from her first book ‘The Baby-Making Bible’.  Emma integrates Western and Eastern medication to create Fusion Health, an empowering, dynamic extension of complementary therapy.  This is something which really appealed to me because it came as a shock to the system for me when I found out I was pregnant with Little Bean and was only able to take paracetamol for my ailments.  Having been a major sufferer of migraines for many years, I knew paracetamol just wouldn’t cut the mustard so I spoke to my Doctor who offered to treat me with Acupuncture.  I wasn’t keen on the idea of needles but I was less keen on migraines for 9 months which seemed to be getting progressively worse during pregnancy.  After only 3 sessions of painless acupuncture treatment, I was cured and I’m happy to say that I am still migraine-free over 3 years on.  I am a convert now and am always keen to try complementary therapy as opposed to drugs for aches, pains and illness.  Emma is a passionate believer in taking the best of medicine and providing a tailor made solution which I think is a very wise approach to adopt.

You and Your Bump contains a 360degree health check with advice on how to ensure that your mind and body are in tip-top condition for getting pregnant.  It has great advice on foods to eat (and the ones to avoid) for preconception and through each trimester, there are some great recipes too.  The exciting part is reading about your developing baby as it really helps you to connect with the little person growing in your tummy.

The really great thing about this book is that you can read it from cover to cover (if you’re a first time Mum – because you will have the time!) or you can just dip in and out when you have the time (for the second-time Mums who only have stolen moments here or there!).  It doesn’t matter how you read it, I’m sure that you will love it.

This sounds like a great all-round book. I’d love to read the 360 health checker and foods to eat for pre-conception. Anything to assist Mother Nature!!!
