Annabel Karmel Organic Chilled Purees

There is something really great about having a baby who wants to eat.  The majority of the stress of mealtimes is removed and when I’m offered the opportunity to review new baby foods I can actually say yes!  And that is just what happened when I received an email asking if Beanie Boy would be interested in trying out the new Organic Chilled Baby Puree range from Annabel Karmel.

Annabel Karmel is one of the first names that springs to mind when you think of baby food.  She began in 1991 when she wrote her first book “The Complete Baby and Toddler Meal Planner” and now, 20 years later it is the UK’s number one book on feeding babies and children.  Annabel believes it is essential for babies to have access to the nutrients and calories in fresh food and so has created a range of organic fresh purees (suitable from 6 months) which are guaranteed to make baby’s (and Mummy’s) mouth water!

We received our parcel last Thursday morning and opened it to find this little array of goodies all packaged with cool blocks and insulation.  I loved the pots (I’m a sucker for little pots) I have washed them out and kept them ‘just in case’ I might need them for some cool art project?!?!  Each box contains two pots of the puree which are to be kept in the refrigerator or can be frozen on the day of purchase and stored for up to 3 months.

The purees came with clear instructions on how to heat and serve the food which I duly followed.  We decided to start with My First Beef and Vegetable Casserole as I normally quite like these flavours (well I always end up having to taste them!).  I had intended to take a photograph of Beanie Boy enjoying his beef casserole, but honestly it didn’t hang around long enough for me to get my camera out.  He loved it so much I don’t he took a breath between mouthfulls!!  It smelt really tasty and it looked just as good, very thick and creamy.  I wouldn’t have complained if I had to finish it for him but I didn’t get the chance.

The next day we tried Scrumptious Butternut Squash, Carrot and Salmon.  I really wasn’t optimistic that this would be a hit with my little man, he doesn’t tend to like butternut squash very much and so far I have struggled to get him to eat fish BUT Annabel Karmel won again.  It looked so scrummy (I love salmon) I was tempted to just eat it myself and say “oh he didn’t like it” but i’m a good Mum so I let him try some and this is what he thought . . .

. . . note the empty bowl!!

Finally, came the turn of Yummy Potato, Sweet Potato and Spinach.  Personally, I was a little put off by the colour but then again I have never tried Guacamole because of the colour and most people love it (I can’t think where Little Bean gets her eating issues!).  However I forged ahead and heated the puree as instructed and began to feed Beanie Boy.  To my shock, he ate it and I even managed to try a spoonful myself.  It wasn’t my favourite of the three but it was still tasty and Beanie Boy seemed very happy with it.

The purees are available exclusively from Sainsbury’s stores from June priced at £2.69 for 2x100g pots.
