Hubby took the day off work today to spend time with me, Curly, Little Bean and Beanie Boy. We decided that as we were all together we would take the opportunity to have a family swimming day and introduce Beanie Boy to the joys of a cold swimming pool! As a family, swimming is something that we do often but since Beanie Boy has arrived it has kind of been forgotten. He loves his bathtimes so we thought he would take to swimming well.
Curly and Little Bean LOVE swimming and got very excited when we told them where we were going. Yesterday we went shopping to get Beanie Boy a swim suit for the event and Little Bean chose this little stunner for him. I think she made a great choice he looks very cute in it.
So the big question is, did he enjoy it? Well, to be honest his face didn’t really change much from what you see in the picture above. He did manage a smile once or twice when he saw his big brother and sister splashing around. He didn’t cry once, not even when we got out of the pool and we managed to stay in for half an hour before he started to shiver. This is a totally different experience from when we first took Little Bean, although to be fair, she was only 12 weeks so very much younger than Beanie Boy is now. Whenever we took her swimming she would be shivering within 10 minutes of getting in the pool and she would scream, scream, scream until I had her fully dressed again. She’s still the same now, in that she shivers almost upon setting foot in the water but she is doesn’t cry when she gets out now – phew!
Curly is now a very confident swimmer and loves splashing around, trying to drown Daddy. He is a typical lad, he loves chasing and play fighting in the water and he plays really nicely with Little Bean who is still a little apprehensive in the water. If he jumps in from the side, she will jump in too but the minute I try to take my hands off her in the water she panics. I think we need to make it a regular activity again to get her confidence back.
As for Beanie Boy, I think he is going to be just fine. Today his little daliance with the water wore him out but I think he’ll soon come to love it as much as his older siblings. A happy family day!!
